How To Create Texture Gradients - Illustrator Tutorial

07:19
You can take your illustration or project to the next level by adding a bit of texture. Texture gradients are an awesome way to add a little bit of realism and at the same time a unique vibe that will make your work stand out! Adding a textured gradient in illustrator with this method is easy and I hope you all give it a shot on your next project. There are other ways to add grain or texture to a gradient but most of them involve image tracing, this is a faster way if you don't want to spend too much time :) Here's my tablet: https://amzn.to/2PmmytS Here's my camera: https://amzn.to/2vTpuG8 zimrimayfield.com Facebook.com/zimrimayfield Instagram: @zimmayfield

My Creative Schedule

02:34
A creative schedule is an awesome way to keep you progressing as an artist. Establishing a schedule and telling others about your schedule will keep you accountable to producing and creating. In my schedule I've included digital mediums like photoshop and illustrator, as well as traditional art. I'm going work on my drawing and coloring skills. This schedule is intended to put more emphasis on my art skills so that one day I could live up to the title of, "artist." 7 Tips For Design Portfolio Presentation

04:25
The project I re-did is here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/61526915/SuperMealz-Branding-Site-Design Hey y’all! In this video I go over seven tips to help you improve the way you present your graphic design projects. Having an expert looking portfolio is one of the most effective tools we have as designers. It is important to present your portfolio well for getting freelance work as well as being hired as an in-house graphic designer. Tip 1: simplify the presentation of your project. Make sure that your actual design is the star of the show and it doesn’t get lost in an over-complicated presentation. Tip 2: Make your presentation in separate images. This allows you to make changes to your presentation easily later without having to exchange the entire portfolio image. Tip 3: Don’t go crazy with the amount of text in your presentation. Keep it between one sentence and two paragraphs. Tip 4: Include your sketches and pre-work. Sketches are particularly helpful if your project is an illustration or custom typography. Tip 5: Don’t use too many fonts. If you use one or two fonts in your design project, then make sure you stick to one of those in your portfolio presentation. Tip 6: Try not to repeat elements too often. If your project involves a logo design then there’s no need to paste the logo throughout your entire presentation. Tip 7: Don’t add artificial length to your design project. Try not to present the same thing in several different ways just to make your project seem more involved or complex. Okay guys, I really hope these tips help you improve how your graphic design projects are presented! My Los Angeles Studio Tour

02:03
Hey everyone. I didn't have too much time to do a full project today but wanted to get a video done. So here's a very strange look at my studio apartment in Los Angeles. I live very close to downtown and my studio apartment is on the third floor. I've been living here for about 2 years and it's the funnest apartment i've lived in personally but not thrilled with it. I get tons of light which is great for art and filming but can get extremely hot in the summer. Hope you guys enjoy this strange look behind the scenes where I make my designs and sometimes art. Welcome to my very quick apartment tour. Find me around the web and on your phone at http://www.zimrimayfield.com/ https://www.facebook.com/zimrimayfield/ @zimmayfield

Modern Logo Design Tutorial - 2018

08:41
In this logo design tutorial, we will be creating a modern and simplified logo for a sushi restaurant called, “Sakura.” We start with receiving the logo design brief from the client and getting our design specifications. We then adventure through the internet looking for similar design ideas and gathering inspiration. During the process of finding inspiration we look for several things. First, we look for examples of what others have done to get ideas, and also to see what to avoid. We also take note of any good color usage or ideas. The goal here is to gather ideas from multiple sources that we can merge together to create an entirely unique and original modern logo design. We then move into adobe illustrator and start working with a few of our initial logo ideas. After we get to a point where we are pleased with how the logo is designed we move into a revision phase. The revision phase is the most important step in creating a clean modern logo. It helps to step away from the computer for an hour or a day and come back to your work with fresh eyes to see what parts of the logo needs to be changed. After we make the revisions to our logo it’s important that we do it again and again to flush out any mistakes or awkward areas. Critiquing Your Design Projects - You Guys Rule 3

11:09
Hey design champions! Today I went through four designs that some design champions were awesome enough to submit, so we could talk about them on, "You Guys Rule!" The first was a design for a Facebook cover that was done really well, and I made a simple critique and change to that one. The next was a super cool logo design, that I simplified and worked with the colors to add energy. The third was a personal logo that needed some adjustment and alignment. The last project we looked at today was a really well done personal branding project. The personal branding design was very creative and executed to near perfection. Please let me know if you enjoyed this design review! Real Client Logo Design yay!

07:30
Hey design champs! Haven’t seen you guys in a while, hope you’ve all been very well and making many design things. In today’s video I create a set of logo directions for a real client. If you watched my previous videos then you know i’m creating a logo for a medical communications company called medcomco. The previous logo directions I created didn’t quite hit the mark, so I hope these ones will be a bit closer. For these options I started by looking at a lot of inspiration for both medical communication company logos, scientific logos, and transportation logos. I also used the new client brief to pare all the ideas together. I created all three logo concepts in adobe illustrator using the pen tool, shape builder tool, and various alignments. Now I will send off the logo options and hope to hear some positive feedback! Poster Design Process

06:57
Hi Design Champions! I'm starting something new to work on my design skills. By creating a random project in a random medium, hopefully, it will challenge me to push myself creatively and improve as a designer. For this project I was challenged to create a print poster design for a vegan shoe company. I used adobe Illustrator exclusively, but if I had time I would have moved the poster design into photoshop and added some lighting effects and detail. zimrimayfield.com facebook.com/zimrimayfield instagram: @zimmayfield

Critiquing Your Design Projects - You Guys Rule 9

12:54
Hey design champions! Today I went through two logo designs that Daniel and Jack were awesome enough to submit, so we could critique and re-design them on, "You Guys Rule!" I only changed Daniel's design minimally as I thought there were just a few changes that could enhance it or at the very least make it a little cleaner. I had tons of fun working with Jack's mars adventure design! Just hope I didn't make any of them worse during the critique. Then we look at two designs that were particularly impressive sent in by Hrvoje and Nikodem. Both of them created awesome personal logo designs that were both uniquely personal and well designed. Come join the pre-sign up for an awesome design club at http://rtweek.com/ Hey Design champions! In today's episode of making design stuffs, I start working on a website redesign for Spark Squared. I spent some time with pen and paper drawing out what information was on the website already and how I would like to adjust the information. After that, I sketched out how I think the information should flow in terms of the website design. Finally, I finished with a rough sketch of the entire UI design on paper. After that process, I started working in Photoshop to lay out the first stage of the website design mockup. How To Make Your Logo Design Look Good Always

07:51
Hey design champions! Hope you're all doing well and designing some awesome things! today we go over a few tips and tricks I think are important for making your logo design really good. The first tip is making sure your lines aren't too thin. The strongest logos don't have many lines, but if you choose to implement lines make sure the width is on the weightier side. The second tip is making sure your logo icon and your supporting text don't fight for attention. If one is visually interesting, try not to make the other too complicated. Third, see yourself as simply a creator of icons, rather than an illustrator or a designer. This will allow you to create logo designs that are simple yet informative without creating overly complicated logos. The final tip is learning to embrace and use color. Color is part of the design itself, it conveys meaning, so remember to both consider the color you use and to include color in your final designs. Thanks so much for watching and being here you design champions. Every one of you make my life better! Critiquing Your Design Projects - You Guys Rule 11

11:57
Hey design champions! Today I went through 4 logo designs and 1 game menu design that some awesome designers were cool enough to submit, so we could critique and re-design them on, "You Guys Rule!" I changed the font and color of the first logo as I thought the blue would enhance the idea of the logo. Then I moved on to the next personal logo design. I ask you guys to help choose which version of the logo is best, the version with space or no space. After that I pick my top three versions of another personal logo and hope you guys will decide which of the three you like best! Finally, I moved on to re-designing a menu for a game app. I just added more dimension to the buttons to make it appear more interactive. Thanks for being here and watching guys! You’re all awesome! Logo design is hard!

07:14
Hi design champs! In today’s video we make a logo for my wine, a company that delivers premium wine to your doorstep. I started by making a list of relevant words to help spark some ideas for the design. I always believe that a unique idea is most important in the process of designing a logo. After I came up with some ideas through lists, I started sketching three or four ideas in adobe illustrator. After I chose which two ideas had the most potential I started working on them and fleshing out the designs. I finish with three unique logos that I would love to get your opinions on! Real Client Logo Directions

07:20
Hey design champions! today I made three logo design directions for a real logo project. When i’m making a real logo, usually I present two or three initial logo directions from which the client can choose. After they choose an initial direction, then we go through rounds of revisions to the logo to come up with a final version that we all feel good about. I started by sketching out the logo design ideas on paper. I sketched out roughly seven ideas. I think it’s best to put down between eight and ten ideas so that you really draw from the corners of your mind to find something good. After the first sketches, i moved the ideas into adobe illustrator and started making a digital version of some of the sketch ideas I thought would work the best. I came up with 3 logo directions and two or three options for each that I showed to the client. Now we will wait and hear about the feedback to see what to move forward with. Logo Design For A Startup Company

05:30
Hey design champs! Hope you’ve all been very well and making many design stuffs! In today’s video I create a set of logo directions for a startup company who launched a successful Kickstarter. The company is called Thread Stax and they create organizational products for your closet. The design brief asked that I create three logo options. The first options being an update to their current logo. The other two options being something completely new. I needed to use the blue that had been used in the branding of their company so far. For the first logo I simplified the stacking idea that is used in the current logo design. For the second logo direction, I created a very straight forward symbolization of how the product works. The final design was a fun and friendly hand written script to make the product seem approachable and friendly. Now I will send off the logo options and hope to hear some positive feedback! This One Step Will Make Your Logo Designs Better Every Time

09:21
Hey design champs! Happy Friday, if you’ve been waiting for the weekend then congrats! In today’s video I complete logo design challenge number 21. I start by sketching four ideas. I make the drawings in illustrator with my wacom tablet and they are very rough. I chose one of the designs to continue with as I thought it had the most potential. With my logo direction in mind, I created a vector outline version of my new logo and adjsted the width of the lines. By creating lines with varying thickness we can create more visually interesting logos. I filled the logo with color and added the typography. Here is where the most important part of logo design comes in. I took time away from the design to do something else, then I came back to the design 20 minutes later. It’s extremely important to evaluate your design and give yourself a gull design round. Try to see the logo with fresh eyes and a fresh perspective, pretend that it is the first time you’e looking at it. Then I made a list of the changes I wanted to to make and I went on to round two. Normally I would have a third and fourth round trying to see the logo fresh each time. I finished with a fun and colorful logo that I mocked up with a photoshop mockup. I hope you enjoyed this logo design process and have a fun weekend! Critiquing Your Design Projects - You Guys Rule 10

I only changed the first design minimally as I thought there were just a few changes that could enhance it or at the very least make it a little cleaner and more simple. Then I moved on to the next toy store logo design. I think there were few small improvements to be made to the perspective and the sizing of the font to make it perfect. I re-designed another flower logo after that and looked at three logos that I thought were done particularly well this week : ) All of them created awesome and semi-minimal logo designs for companies real or fake. How To Design A Personal Logo

08:09
Make sure to pre-sign up for our awesome possum design club here: rtweek.com The personal logo design process can be very difficult. Hopefully after watching this video, you’ll get a new perspective or at least a few ideas on how to design a personal logo of your own. It’s especially hard to come up with an idea when you aren’t sure exactly what kind of designer you want to be. But don’t worry, personal logos can change and you shouldn’t feel as though you’re designing something that you have to be locked into for your whole life. The best way to go about creating a personal logo is to focus on what is unique about you. That could be anything, but to help i’ll give a few examples. Do you have a unique family? Were you in love with a sport or a band when you were young? Is there something about you that people usually pick up on quite quickly? After you have identified a few things that make you unique, try to make ideas of how you can represent those traits visually. The Coolest Illustrations I've made!

07:55
Hey design champs! Today I created two illustrations in very different styles. One was made to look a little drawn. I used brushed and adobe photoshop to achieve that look. The other was meant to be clean and vectorized. I used adobe illustrator to create that option. I would love to know which style you prefer? Also, which kind of character do you think would be better for our club? Hope you enjoy watching the design process and have a super great day! I can’t believe how cool this app looks!

07:40
Hello design champions! Today I worked on two projects. The first was continuing on the app design project for memapp. Eric, the client was awesome enough to include some general layout ideas for where information, text, and images should be placed. I was able to work with those designs in photoshop and create the ui elements for the first three pages of the app. In total, the app has seven or eight page designs which I will be continuing with tomorrow. I designed all the app ui in photoshop but created icons and supporting elements in illustrator. After the app design was done, I moved onto finalizing the logo design for Thread Stax the logo we've been working on for the past few months. I hope you all enjoy the app design process and continue working on your own designs and projects! Starting An Illustration Challenge

06:07
Hello design champs. I’m starting a completely new series called Instagram Jam. This will be a means of giving me idea prompts to practice my design and illustration skills. I’ll be posting them to Instagram as a way to keep myself accountable and getting feedback from people. The idea is to have a list of nouns in one jar and a list of verbs in another jar. After pulling an item from each jar I get thirty minutes to sketch the art for Instagram that combines the ideas of the noun and the verb. Afterward, I get another 30 minutes to create the vector illustration in illustrator. Thanks so much for watching and i’d love to hear your feedback on this video format. The Greatest Logo Design Ever Designed - Ever!

06:13
You can see the comic book project here: http://www.emptiescomics.com Some may deny the facts about this logo, but the truth is obvious - this is the greatest logo design ever :P I started with a logo prompt from the 30 logo challenge - this one was to create a logo for a line of chef’s tools called “sharp.” The prompt asked for a minimal clean logo design in black and white. To begin the logo design process I started in adobe illustrator cc. I wanted to create a word mark that made up the body of the image itself. I found a sans serif font that was modern and minimal to work with. After trying various options I created a shape and subtracted areas of the letters to create a nice bottom side curve. I created a handle for the tool and added an extra element to the side of the “P.” I think overall this design came out well, but might need a little more exploration. Thanks for watching guys! You Challenge My Logo Design Abilities?!

07:54
Hey guys! Today they challenged me to a logo design for a coffee shop in Seattle Washington. I started by making a custom font in illustrator then after I was happy with the design I moved it into photoshop. I tilted the font in photoshop to give it an angled look as well as play with background colors. I think the final logo design is okay but not quite the right look for this design challenge. After I completed this, I made a couple rounds of changes to the design so it would be more cohesive and an all around better logo. Hey design champions! Today I went through five designs that some design champions were awesome enough to submit, so we could talk about them on, "You Guys Rule!" The first was a personal logo design that we simplified quite a bit. The next was a super cool logo design, that I added weight to the font and redesigned a plant element. The third was a really fun logo that I simplified quite a bit.I hope you enjoy the rest of these logo redesigns. Please let me know if you enjoyed this design review! Hey there design champions! This is the first installment of Design Chicken Chicken, the graphic design competition. Today, Joey and Andy were both tasked with creating a flyer for a design course at the local community college. The design of the flyer had to include a logo design for the course as well. Both designers used adobe illustrator and photoshop to complete their flyers! They each did a wonderful job on this project! Vote for who you think did a little better on the project, in the poll! Graphic Design Portfolio Overhaul

06:33
Check out the project at: https://www.behance.net/gallery/61283537/Cool-Bags-App-Design Hey superstars, here is a video I made documenting my process on updating a project for my graphic design portfolio. I started by gathering inspiration from behance on how the most popular mobile app projects were displayed. Afterward, I overhauled this particular project to make it more design friendly and clean. I did all the design work in photoshop after making the original interface design in adobe illustrator I plan to re work most of the projects in my graphic design portfolio in the coming weeks to bring up the design standard. I hope you guys found the process interesting and you find some tips or inspiration to work on your own portfolio. Flyer Design

04:16
In this video we create a quick flyer using adobe photoshop. I started the process with a stock photo of the interior of a restaurant. Then I worked with the photo to create bright lasers and dramatic colors to give the flyer some personality. The design took about one and a half hours to finish. Design a perfect original logo with these steps

05:26
Hey design champions. In this logo design tutorial I wanted to share with you the 8 steps I've been using to create original logo designs. It's all about digging a little deeper into finding truly creative concepts. I start by listing ideas, then doing a lot of searching for inspiration. After I've found ideas that I think will work for the logo design, I ask myself if these ideas are truly original or if they are are just what is most convenient. I then try to combine the logo concepts I decided on with an interesting art style. Hope you enjoy the design process and get something out of the video! Redesigning your logo designs! YGR 16

10:23
Hey design champions! Today I went through five designs that some design champions were awesome enough to submit, so we could talk about them on, "You Guys Rule!" The first was a logo design for a computer repair company. The colors fo r the logo were awesome! In my opinion there were a few too many lines to we removed a few and simplified the logo. The next was a super cool logo idea that I took in an abstract direction. I'm not sure if that redesign was helpful or not. The third logo was great as usual, but I felt it needed a little clarity in the text, so I made it all one font and tried to integrate it with the logo icon better..I hope you enjoy the rest of these logo redesigns. I'd love to hear what different directions you would have gone in? : ) Julius Creative Design Font - Montserrat Come join the pre-sign up for an awesome design club at http://rtweek.com/ https://tinyurl.com/y7fc5vhk Find me around the web and on your phone at http://www.zimrimayfield.com/ https://www.facebook.com/zimrimayfield/ @zimmayfield

Logo Design Process - For Cool People!

05:31
Today's logo design challenge asked me to create a logo for a company called Bookworm. The logo design process starts by creating a list of words associated with the logo idea. Then deciding on a visual representation for a few of those words. For this process I chose to work with the words "letters and "page." I created a graphic representation of a typeface on a page and connected some of the lines to create a worm. I created a simple layout of blocks in illustrator cc to make the composition for this design. I then found a typeface that seemed similar to what you might find in a text book or newspaper. I hope you enjoy watching the logo design process today! See all you cool kids later. What Can You Illustrate In 1 hour?

Hello design champs! Today is another episode of Instagram Jam. I get 1 hour to make a vector illustration based on two words drawn at random from jars. I can split the hour up into sketching and working on the computer however much I want. I'm trying to get better at illustrating as well as working fast, but I think the time limit isn't actually every helpful for improving my illustration skills, but whatever. The Craziest Logo Design Challenge To Date

10:03
Hey guys! Today they challenged me to a logo design for a company called twitchy rabbit. I started by re-creating the original rabbit logo into a simple shape in illustrator then after I was happy with the design I moved it into photoshop. I didn't like how the design looked when it was completely flat so I worked with it in photoshop to give it a shadow to make it a little more dimensional and play with background colors. I think the final logo design is fun but might not stand out enough. The shadows on the rabbit might be a little too minimal. After I completed the logo design challenge, I fixed a few designs I did yesterday. The grind coffee shop logo got a major overhaul (I actually did one more round than the final one shown here) then I re-did the illustration for rtweek and made it much more friendly and viewable.
