The protagonist of this first edition is Marina Abramović, one of the most famous and controversial figures in contemporary art. ========================= 'Marina Abramović. Introduction to Brand Management | Lecture 1: Fashion Is A Beatutiful Chaos

11:36
Titled "Fashion is a Beautiful Chaos," this is the first lecture of a three-part series introducing Polimoda's Master's in Fashion Brand Management. Here, our director Danilo Venturi unpacks the three major tipping points that have shifted today's industry — globalization, the internet and the downfall of ideologies — to decode how the brand manager remains relevant in a chaos-ridden society. The blurred distinction between culture and identity, he explains, coupled with a shifted perception of time and space, have caused chaos - and this, he argues, is the new order. Shot in Polimoda's main campus, Villa Favard, these lectures are part of a special BoF - The Business of Fashion media partnership launched in October 2017 to unlock one of fashion's most sought-after figures. ========================= More info about Polimoda Master's Course in Fashion Brand Management (The Deep Identity of a Luxury Fashion Business): http://www.polimoda.com/courses/fashion-brand-management/ Follow us on: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Polimoda Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/polimodafirenze Twitter - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/polimoda Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/polimodatube

Introduction to Brand Management | Lecture 3: Branding the Subconscious

07:48
Titled "Branding the subconscious," this is the third lecture of a three-part series introducing Polimoda's Master's in Fashion Brand Management. Here, our director Danilo Venturi explains that marketing to specific segments of society is no longer effective, due to the variety of cultural shifts that have defined the world in the last decade. Venturi argues that brands should instead target subconscious archetypes found in all humans regardless of geography, gender or age, in order to communicate a more universal message. Shot in Polimoda's main campus, Villa Favard, these lectures are part of a special BoF - The Business of Fashion media partnership launched in October 2017 to unlock one of fashion's most sought-after figures. ========================= More info about Polimoda Master's Course in Fashion Brand Management (The Deep Identity of a Luxury Fashion Business): http://www.polimoda.com/courses/fashion-brand-management/ Follow us on: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Polimoda Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/polimodafirenze/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze LinkedIn - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/polimodatube

06:09
Polimoda presents: [I]SOLUTION Installation exhibition of the final projects created by the students of the masters in Fashion Styling and Fashion Communication. October 6, 2014 - Villa Favard For the occasion, young stylists and communicators have worked together in pairs to create an image, a communication project and finally an installation that represents their vision on the concept [I]Solution. The students of the Styling course curated and completed a photographic shoot, while those of the Communication course developed a communication strategy, both with the aim of promoting a product linked to the world of fashion. The result has been the production of nine multi-sensorial installations, each one of which develops the initial idea of the image through some of the elements used to create it. In this way, the images have come to life, offering visitors the chance to try something unique and surreal.

Polimoda Rendez-Vous with Anja Aronowsky Cronberg, Vestoj founder and editor-in-chief

01:43
On the morning of December 5th 2017, Vestoj editor-in-chief and founder Anja Aronowsky Cronberg took the floor of Polimoda’s Rendez-Vous series with one goal: to teach the importance of thinking critically through fashion. "When you come up with an idea, before you act on it, question yourself and draw an accurate analysis. Everybody feels like they are filling a gap but are they really? In addition, perseverance is of the utmost importance. Rest assured that in time, doors will open if you really believe in what you’re doing. For me it was important to break the surface and offer a 360° view of fashion: we have to remember that the relationship we have with clothing is deeply linked to nostalgia, relationships and everything that makes us human." http://www.polimoda.com/on-the-real-side-of-fashion-anja-aronowsky-cronberg-lecture/

Fashion Displacement - Florence | Full | Polimoda

01:39:23
For this 2nd edition of Fashion Displacement, the discussion was focused on adapting young professionals to the evolving industry, and the panel was made up of fashion and job-market experts from around the world. Our industry is evolving and therefore we as professionals must also. In order to foster adaptable employees, there first must be a clear link between today’s courses and today’s careers. Skills mismatch is something that loses time, output and money for both employees and companies. Then, an ongoing dialogue with the industry is key. Creating an overlap between our worlds is key. This is what will move the industry into a new space.

Moderated by Linda Loppa, Polimoda’s Advisor of Strategy and Vision, Fashion Displacement created a moment to understand directly from the industry the changes that are happening and how education can adapt to fill these changes. Education likewise has the potential to give clarity to the industry with its insider’s view whilst remaining apart from fashion’s ephemeral nature. It’s for this dual purpose and mutual benefit that Polimoda brought together this esteemed panel of top educators, opinion leaders and fashion experts from around the world. Together for the first time and in this context for substantial analyses, these individuals had the ability to move systems of uncertainty and uncertain societies into a clear future.

How can we reshape an industry to value people before profit? During her Polimoda Rendez-Vous, Baroness Lola Young of Hornsey (Officer of the Order of the British Empire and Founder and Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Ethics and Sustainability in Fashion) considered the questions meant to usher leaders towards implementing major change in how fashion functions. "Are we saying that we have to keep buying but just this time we buy in a circular economy or we buy something that’s been recycled and that makes it alright? These are really big questions and I would argue that they’re the kinds of questions we really need to think hard about. " http://www.polimoda.com/rendez-vous-lola-young/

Fashion Displacement - Berlin | Full | Polimoda

01:27:03
The third edition of Fashion Displacement set the tone for a choral conversation on the future of fashion and which steps must be taken in order to bridge the gap between education and industry. Moderated by Linda Loppa and organized in partnership with VOGUE Germany, the panel discussion – held on April 26th, 2018 – featured a number of top-level professionals and thinkers. A career today has become both vital to the individual's independence and happiness and an opportunity to set forward the visibility and practice of equal rights. As the educational environment is responsible for the formation of industry professionals, this didactic space must correlate and be effective in its developmental function. Moreover, the educational environment is also where the mentality of today’s youth develops and solidifies - young men and women that will ultimately shape the future of the world in either a sustainable or unsustainable manner. “As fashion is the most complete discipline, including humans, society and the industry,” explains Polimoda Director Danilo Venturi, “filling the gap between fashion education and fashion industry, is a mission with universal implication.”

Polimoda Rendez-Vous with Filep Motwary - author, photographer and curator

01:45
On the occasion of his guest lecture inside Polimoda’s Aula Magna, costume designer, photographer, journalist, fashion curator and author Filep Motwary tackled the palindromic subject of ‘Fashion out of Fashion’. “Practically speaking, the most important virtue of fashion is indeed the body that still needs to be dressed. Fashion reflects who we are and where we want to be, how we want others to see us, how we present ourselves to society, how we communicate with the self and with the others. This is why it can be considered a form of political expression. The second half of the 20th century was the moment when we started to see the exhibition as a form of understanding fashion by gazing at fashion itself and therefore ourselves, where we come from or where we are going. At this a particularly chaotic moment for the fashion industry questions like ‘At which city should a designer choose for a show? When should the clothes we see on the runways be available to buy? Who is hot in fashion and who is not…?’ are not relevant to the practice of exhibiting fashion…” https://www.polimoda.com/rendez-vous-filep-motwary/

Polimoda Rendez-Vous with Sam Cotton | Creative Consultant and Director of Agi&Sam

01:37
On October 26th, Polimoda welcomed Sam Cotton, Creative Consultant and Director of Agi & Sam, for a rousing Rendez-Vous addressing the negative impact of digital and social media on research and design. The London-based designer, currently head of menswear brand Agi & Sam, boasts over a decade’s worth of experience in the industry. His extensive background includes consulting and collaborating with top-notch brands the likes of COS, Nike, Lacoste, Topman, Jaeger, Fred Perry and Converse, and working for luxury brands J.W. Anderson, Alexander McQueen and Karl Lagerfeld. A trailblazer in contemporary menswear, Cotton has garnered significant recognition throughout the years, including a British Fashion Award for Emerging Menswear in 2013, GQ Men of the Year Award for Breakthrough Designer in 2014 and the WGSN Award for Breakthrough Design in 2015. The architect of attention-grabbing designs was also a finalist for the LVMH Prize in 2015 and the regional winner of the International Woolmark Prize in 2016. A divergent thinker in today’s industry, Cotton’s work is especially conscious of the ways neoliberalism and globalization have impacted the individual, a concept transferred to the product development of his latest collection. Coupled with the digitalized world, this new societal landscape, he argues, has altered creativity, resulting in a benign homogenous society. Cotton’s lecture addressed these societal shifts, focusing on the effects of marketing on social constructs and digital innovations, from the advent of social advertising to Pavlovian conditioning and algorithmic marketing. Through a thoughtful and thorough analysis of digital, his lecture unveiled the importance of tactile research and of discovering the new within design. ========================= The complete list of Polimoda Rendez-Vous: http://www.polimoda.com/category/guest-lectures/ Follow us on: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Polimoda Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/polimodafirenze Twitter - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze LinkedIn - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/polimodatube

Polimoda Rendez-Vous with Jon Koon | Entrepreneur, artist and fashion designer

00:59
Jon Koon is the most interesting man you’ve never heard of, writes The National. On December 11th, the Chinese American artist, entrepreneur, photographer and fashion designer – and self-made millionaire by age 16 – headed to Florence for a Polimoda Rendez-Vous unwrapping his global empire and epic ascent in fashion. Today a renowned artist and owner of Andy Warhol’s former SoHo studio, Koon’s humble origins remain a surprising driving factor of his success. Born to immigrants from Hong Kong and raised in Jamaica, Queens, Koon impressively made his first art sale at age 8, selling his drawings to the U.S. greeting card manufacturer Hallmark. Motivated by his struggling family, the young business guru founded Extreme Performance Motorsports while still in his teens, a company importing Asian car-tuning parts, eventually becoming one of the main suppliers for the hit MTV show Pimp My Ride. Driven and resourceful, Koon soon made his way into fashion, first as the manufacturer behind rapper Cam’ron’s label The Diplomats and later as the sole manufacturer of all Rocawear headwear. Koon Enterprises quickly rose to a top-notch clientele, including Honda and American multinational corporation Costco, leading to the 2008 purchase of Jay-Z’s 8732 streetwear brand, which he successfully relaunched with Young Jeezy. After a myriad of business ventures in and outside of fashion, Koon launched his own luxury menswear line, Private Stock. In 2013, Koon opened his first bricks-and-mortar store at the historical 76 Wooster Street – Andy Warhol’s former studio and home – a 5,000 square-foot anti-retail “amuseum” featuring lacquer walls, art installations, a koi pond and only 28 hangers. Strictly limited edition, Koon’s label produces 8 pieces per size with a 28-piece max per design, redefining luxury goods as irreplaceable rarities. In addition to his own label, Koon is also the owner of Haculla, a streetwear brand based on the design and art of contemporary painter Harif Guzman. The designer label showed at Pitti Uomo 95 in an exclusive art installation titled ‘Art-Meets-Fashion,’ which explored the continuous evolution of New York street art and experimenting with innovative materials. A maverick of upscale streetwear and pioneer of retail concepts, Koon is a true modern force, affirming a new vision of luxury and design in today’s global world. ========================= The complete list of Polimoda Rendez-Vous: http://www.polimoda.com/category/guest-lectures/ Follow us on: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Polimoda Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/polimodafirenze Twitter - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze LinkedIn - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/polimodatube

Polimoda Rendez-Vous with Antonio Mancinelli | Senior Editor of Marie-Claire Italia

01:09
On October 10th, the Polimoda Rendez-Vous guest lecture series welcomed media master Antonio Mancinelli, Senior Editor of Marie Claire Italia and Polimoda Lecturer in Fashion Writing & Communications. Drawing on his journalistic expertise, Mancinelli explored the last thirty years of fashion reportage to decode what voices, information and communication methods remain relevant to consumers today. Now an esteemed journalist in the Italian fashion landscape, Mancinelli first put pen to paper in 1985, stepping in as the only male fashion critic in the Italian editorial world of the 1980s. In what now seems a bygone era of passé communication methods, the critic represented the dominant voice of fashion commentary, the connecting authority between the inner workings of the industry and its avid readership. It was in this pre-social media environment that Mancinelli found an effective way of discussing fashion, closely following societal changes and adapting to wavering support for printed media. ========================= The complete list of Polimoda Rendez-Vous: http://www.polimoda.com/category/guest-lectures/ Follow us on: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Polimoda Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/polimodafirenze Twitter - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze LinkedIn - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/polimodatube

Polimoda Rendez-Vous with Sven Marquardt | Photographer

01:06
On November 21st, iconic German photographer Sven Marquardt joined Polimoda People in Florence for a punk-infused Rendez-Vous on the zeitgeist of today. Born in 1962 in East Berlin, Marquardt is considered a defining part of the emerging punk, new wave and arts scene of the Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood in the 80s. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, he was ushered towards the reunited city’s rising nightclub scene, catalyzing his link to techno and forming a sonic base for a thirty-year (and counting) photography career. Today, the East Berlin native is widely recognized as the ‘gatekeeper’ of legendary club Berghain, considered among the most famous and tough-to-please bouncers on a global scale. Beyond the door, Marquardt is internationally renowned for his alluring photography, noted for its queer punk aesthetic marked by the use of daylight, suggestive contrasts and powerful symbolism. From snapshots to the written word, he has also authored three books on art – Zukunftig Vergangen, Heiland and Wild Verschlossen – and released his memoir, Die Nacht ist Leben (The Night is Life), in 2014. Marquardt is considered the only East Berlin photographer following the tradition of visual artists Arno Fischer and Sibylle Bergemann, though with a specific twist towards fashion. This artistic vision and cross-disciplinary work has led to a number of impressive collaborations with fashion brands and cultural associations, including Hugo Boss, Levi’s and the Goethe-Institut. On the occasion of his Polimoda Rendez-Vous, Marquardt addressed fashion photography and the underground in East Germany, unveiling where fashion has informed his own work and his views on the state of contemporary photography. ========================= The complete list of Polimoda Rendez-Vous: http://www.polimoda.com/category/guest-lectures/ Follow us on: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Polimoda Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/polimodafirenze Twitter - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze LinkedIn - https://twitter.com/polimodafirenze Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/polimodatube
