Explore a nation's history. Find inspiration. Connect with the past. Browse thousands of vintage posters, starting at $4.99 each, at http://vintaga.com. You'll love our collection of classic posters, each available for custom printing on quality media. We offer heavy duty Giclée canvas prints, float mounted metal prints, and standard prints on archival-quality papers. All our prints fit common frame sizes. Bring a piece of vintage art into your home today. Across the globe, countries at war created posters that would encourage young men to volunteer for battle. Some of these posters cultivated a sense of national pride; others attempted to demonize opponents. From 1914 to 1918, thousands of different posters were created, and only some of these survive today. Look back to the early 1900s and see what everyday citizens saw posted on street corners, on buildings, and sometimes, in their homes. These classic prints are timeless pieces of Irish history. Their bold colors and strong imagery reveal life in a time long past, but the ideals of these posters remain a part of our common history.

http://auction.recoil.co.uk http://omegaauctions.co.uk/alanwildercollected.php Saturday 3rd September 2011 Venue: To be confirmed Viewing: Friday 2nd September and morning of sale This summer, Alan Wilder will be selling a large selection of musical / studio equipment and memorabilia at auction. Many items are very collectable and hold special value having been used extensively in the recording sessions for classic Depeche Mode and Recoil albums, as well as live performances on the 'Black Celebration', 'Music For The Masses', World Violation' and 'Devotional' tours. The additional memorabilia such as Gold & Platinum award discs, leather clothing, rare vinyl acetates, posters, tour merchandise and much more, covers Alan's entire musical career, focusing mainly on the years between 1982 & 1995 and making this one of the most exciting career sales to hit the public domain ever. It is also the first time ever that a Depeche Mode memorabilia sale on this scale has appeared. The auction will be held at a venue in Manchester, however it will be possible to bid from anywhere in the world via the internet. Details/photographs of the items will be available shortly. Says Alan... "One of my new year's resolutions this year was to start streamlining my set-up at The Thin Line Studios. My needs have altered a bit since laptops, soft synths and plug-ins have come to the fore, and even though I'm emotionally attached, passing on some vintage gear and historical items seems like a good way to start. Since my teenage years I've been an avid collector of interesting and unique musical items, including a 'Steinway' Grand piano, vintage keyboards, synthesisers such as the 'Mini-moog', 'Arp Odyssey', a 'Wurlitzer' electric piano, plus 'Manley' valve amps, valve-driven 'Telefunken' amps and a 'Manley' limiter/compressor. There is one very special guitar and various 'Emulators' which were featured during the Mode tours, and I even have my old stage clothing, touring wardrobe, the 'Devotional' drum kit, drumming extras and other artifacts available. I also decided that, since I was having a clear out and with so many writing in asking for things, why not include some extra memorabilia and pass on some of the stuff I have collected over the years -- like my leather jackets, tour merchandise, records, promo items and even presentation awards. So I have expanded the concept and hopefully created an exciting and unique event. It's all up for grabs now! Good luck with your bidding..." Alan Wilder

At its height, vaudeville played across multiple strata of economic class and auditorium size. The three most common levels were the "small time" (lower-paying contracts for more frequent performances in rougher, often converted theaters), the "medium time" (moderate wages for two performances each day in purpose-built theaters), and the "big time" (possible remuneration of several thousand dollars per week in large, urban theaters largely patronized by the middle and upper-middle classes). As performers rose in renown and established regional and national followings, they worked their way into the less arduous working conditions and better pay of the big time. Although many of the performers of the day are now little more than a footnote in history, they were immortalized in the artwork of the poster. Most of these posters were created using the still relatively new lithographic process. Lithography (from Greek λίθος - lithos, 'stone' + γράφειν - graphein, 'to write'), invented in 1796 by Bavarian author Alois Senefelder as a cheap method of publishing theatrical works, is a method for printing using a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate with a completely smooth surface. Here you will see striking portraits of the stars of the stage, as well as comical images such as the diminutive police officer running across the tongue of man with a contorted face, a strong men, a Scot in kilt, attractive women and other images illustrative of the era. The shift of New York City's Palace Theatre, vaudeville's epicenter, to an exclusively cinema presentation on November 16, 1932 is often considered to have been the death knell of vaudeville. No single event is more reflective of its gradual withering. Numbers of vaudeville entrepreneurs made more or less successful forays into the movie business, quickly realizing the importance of motion pictures as a form of entertainment. The continued growth of the lower-priced cinema in the early 1910s dealt the heaviest blow to vaudeville. By the late 1920s, almost no vaudeville bill failed to include a healthy selection of cinema. Some in the industry blamed cinema's drain of talent from the vaudeville circuits for the medium's demise. Short video about the work of Anais Toudouse one of the most talented artists of the golden age of French Fashion Illustration. Created by Victorian Beauties on Zazzle. Visit: http://www.zazzle.com/victorianbeauties?rf=238998471764588387&CMPN=zBookmarklet Anais Toudouse was born in 1822 into a family of artists. She was one of three sisters who would go on to have successful careers in the booming fashion magazine industry of the late 19th century. These prints are what are known as "Fashion Plates" because they were engraved on plates of steel. Today we still use the expression - "she's a real fashion plate" - used to describe a fashion conscious woman. The Steel Plate technique was new at the beginning of the 19th Century. Steel engraving allowed publishers to print many copies of each image - making the business of printing illustrated magazines possible. Steel plate engravings were printed in black ink. Color printing did not yet exist. Each plate had to be colored by hand with watercolor paints, usually by girls and young women who were paid very little for this painstaking task. The original antique fashion plates shown in this video are available through Village Antiques - http://www.villageantiques.ch We have also created a special line of unique gifts based on antique fashion illustrations for our Victorian Beauties store. There you will find tshirts, posters, stationery, coffee mugs and more - all inspired by vintage fashion illustrations. There is an urgent need for recycled fashion and Karen shows people how they can take inspiration from the fashion scene and customise their garments. Her workshops are hands-on sessions, with participants bringing along items of clothing that they had been on the verge of throwing out. They will then be shown how to restyle them. Now, in addition to lecturing historical and theoretical studies of design, she also runs a social enterprise, a Leeds-based workshop named Ketchup, where she makes and sells clothes from recycled materials.

The Windows on the War exhibition team from the Art Institute contracted artist Alexis Petroff to re-create a stenciled and painted TASS poster in order to reveal the amazing amount of handwork required in the production of these complexly layered images. To reproduce The Moralistic Wolf (TASS 757), a poster with at least 30 color separations, Petroff traced the image onto Mylar to create a color map, cut dozens of stencils to articulate the separations, hand-mixed paint to match the poster's original colors, and painted each layer on a separate sheet of paper to demonstrate how the artists of the TASS poster studio painstakingly assembled vibrant images from a puzzle of color separations. Some of Petroff's color separations are on view in the exhibition, as is a short film documenting his process.

My idea is to have posters on the backs of women's toilets in schools, colleges, bars, clubs, really anywhere. The posters would be pretty and designed like a fashion magazine editorial to be eye-catching. They would show pictures and describe in a simple way the many different kinds of contraception with a focus on long acting reversible contraception (LARC). A lot of women don't know that contraception is about more than the pill. There are many kinds where you don't have to think about them for 5+ years! This would be an easy way to give this info as women are sitting there for a while so why not read something really useful and beneficial for their health?

Find copies of the Taschen Icons Series on AbeBooks: http://bit.ly/pMWHKy Taschen is well known for publishing large and usually expensive art, photography and fashion books. However, Taschen's Icons series of glossy softcovers offers an affordable alternative for fans of pure eye candy. The Icons series covers art, design and stylistic aspects of popular culture. Each book is eight inches tall by five and half wide with a glossy but hardwearing plastic binding. We have seven of them here -- our lead designer bought most of these used off our site and never paid more than $10 for any of them. Surfing: Vintage Surfing Graphics stretches from the 1920s to the 1970s and covers the surf culture via adverts, book covers, magazine art and posters. Seaside Style showcases buildings around the world found by the beach from sparse huts to luxury homes. Halloween: Vintage Holiday Graphics shows how art and design has influenced this holiday from chocolate bars to Coke ads. Future Perfect: Vintage Futuristic Graphics covers the magic of the Popular Science and Popular Mechanics magazines. In the 1950s, almost anything seemed possible. Toyko Style takes a sometimes surprisingly look at architecture in Japan's capital -- there's far more than neon lights in this book packed with countless austere photos. Web Design: E-commerce showcases the best design found on the Internet from perfume sites tom airlines and underwear retailers. If you are a fan of art and design, then the Icon series is right up your alley. There's little text, lots of eye-catching images and very reasonable price tags.

I spent the afternoon with spray paint cans and a stencil of our old band logo, creating overlays on this stash of vintage posters recently unearthed in my mom's attic. The posters date from 1992 and were used for the Willie Wisely Trios' first full-length album release "Raincan". John Berry, a Seattle-based artist, designed the posters and the concept. Twenty years later his work still resonates.

SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION: A SERIES OF 3 SILK SCARVES CREATED WITH TORN POSTERS IMAGES A series of three silk scarves. I've created them workin' on my "Lacer/actions": images of torn posters details. I accepted the challenge that italian textiles designer Bruno Boggia offered me when I visited his Studio in Como (Italy). Bruno, with the invaluable assistance of his daughter Lucia and with the support of his staff, helped me selecting artworks to be converted into silk scarves designs. Bruno Boggia Studio has been working with the most famous designers and fashion brands in the world (Capucci, Lacroix, Valentino, Lancetti, Mila Schon, Chanel, Celine, Dior, Y.S.L., Etro, Escada, Donna Karan, Paul Smith, Rolando Santana...) Within a few days, the challenge reached the finish line. The images of dirty and ripped papers - left to decompose on city walls or billboards -- after being transformed in canvas, litographs and videoclip, have now changed in the elegance, delicacy and sheen of silk scarves. Here some photographs about the three Silk Scarves series created in a Special Limited Edition for my "Lacer/actions" project. Roberto Alborghetti For infos and bookings: [email protected] SPECIALE EDIZIONE LIMITATA: LA SERIE DI 3 SCIARPE DI SETA CREATE CON LE IMMAGINI DELLA PUBBLICITA STRAPPATA Una serie di tre sciarpe di seta.
