GridView insert update delete in asp.net - Part 23

23:47
Link for csharp, asp.net, ado.net, dotnet basics and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for text version of this video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/03/gridview-insert-update-delete-in-aspnet.html In this video we will discuss about performing an insert, update and delete on asp.net gridview control using sqldatasource. We will be using tblEmployee table for this demo. SQL script to create and populate this table with sample data is available in Part 13 of asp.net gridview tutorial. Create an asp.net web application. Drag and drop a gridview and a sqldatasource control on WebForm1.aspx. Configure "SqlDataSource1" control 1. Right click on "SqlDataSource1" control and select "Show Smart Tag" 2. Now click on "Configure Data Source" link 3. Select connection string, from the dropdownlist on "Choose your data connection" screen. You need to have a connection string specified in web.config file. 4. Click Next 5. On "Configure the Select Statement" screen, select "tblEmployee" table from dropdownlist. 6. Click on "Advanced" button 7. Select "Generate INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements" checkbox and click OK 8. Click Next and Finish Drag and drop gridview control on WebForm1.aspx. Now let us associate "SqlDataSource1" control with "GridView1" control 1. Right click on "GridView1" control and select "Show Smart Tag" 2. Select "SqlDataSource1" from "Choose Data Source" dropdownlist 3. Select "Enable Deleting" and "Enable Editing" checkboxes. At this point "Delete" and "Edit" buttons should appear on the gridview control. We will be using gridview control's footer for inserting a new record. Set "ShowFooter" property of the GridView1 control to "true". This can be done from the properties window, or in the HTML. By default GridView control has generated bound fields to display EmployeeId, Name, Gender and City columns. We need to convert these bound fields into template fields. This can be done very easily using the designer. 1. On the "GridView Tasks" pane click on "Edit Columns" link button. 2. Select "EmployeeId" from "Selected Fields" section and click on "Convert this field into a template field" link 3. Do the same for Name, Gender and City Now modify the template fields in the HTML. Please note 1. In every TemplateField, along with EditItemTemplate and ItemTemplate, we also need FooterTemplate. 2. A dropdownlist is used in EditItemTemplate and FooterTemplate of "Gender" template field, instead of a textbox control. 3. To validate data during edit and insert operations, notice that, we are using validation controls, in EditItemTemplate and FooterTemplate. 4. A linkbutton is used in the footer template of "EmployeeId" template field, to enable the user to insert a new employee row 5. We have used ValidationGroup="Insert" for all the validation controls in FooterTemplates. LinkButton's ValidationGroup is aslo set to "Insert", so that all the validation controls in in FooterTemplates are fired only on Insert LinkButton click. 6. We have set LinkButton's OnClick="lbInsert_Click". 7. After the closing tag of GridView, notice that we are using 2 validationsummary controls, to display all the validation messages in one place. ValidationSummary1 control's ValidationGroup is set to "Insert". ValidationSummary1 control displays all insert related validation errors, and edit related validation errors are displayed using ValidationSummary2 control. Finally copy and paste the following event handler method in WebForm1.aspx.cs protected void lbInsert_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { SqlDataSource1.InsertParameters["Name"].DefaultValue = ((TextBox)GridView1.FooterRow.FindControl("txtName")).Text; SqlDataSource1.InsertParameters["Gender"].DefaultValue = ((DropDownList)GridView1.FooterRow.FindControl("ddlGender")).SelectedValue; SqlDataSource1.InsertParameters["City"].DefaultValue = ((TextBox)GridView1.FooterRow.FindControl("txtCity")).Text; SqlDataSource1.Insert(); }

Cursors in sql server Part 63

For example, the following "UPDATE" query, updates a set of rows that matches the condition in the "WHERE" clause at the same time. Update tblProductSales Set UnitPrice = 50 where ProductId = 101 However, if there is ever a need to process the rows, on a row-by-row basis, then cursors are your choice. Cursors are very bad for performance, and should be avoided always. Most of the time, cursors can be very easily replaced using joins. There are different types of cursors in sql server as listed below. We will talk about the differences between these cursor types in a later video session. 1. Forward-Only 2. Static 3. Keyset 4. Dynamic Let us now look at a simple example of using sql server cursor to process one row at time. We will be using tblProducts and tblProductSales tables, for this example. On my machine, there are 400,000 records in tblProducts and 600,000 records in tblProductSales tables. If you want to learn about generating huge amounts of random test data, please watch Part - 61 in sql server video tutorial. The link is below. http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/videos?flow=grid&view=1 Cursor Example: Let us say, I want to update the UNITPRICE column in tblProductSales table, based on the following criteria 1. If the ProductName = 'Product - 55', Set Unit Price to 55 2. If the ProductName = 'Product - 65', Set Unit Price to 65 3. If the ProductName is like 'Product - 100%', Set Unit Price to 1000 For the SQL code samples used in the demo please visit my blog at the following link http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/01/cursors-in-sql-server-part-63.html The cursor will loop thru each row in tblProductSales table. As there are 600,000 rows, to be processed on a row-by-row basis, it takes around 40 to 45 seconds on my machine. We can achieve this very easily using a join, and this will significantly increase the performance. We will discuss about this in our next video session. To check if the rows have been correctly updated, please use the following query. Select Name, UnitPrice from tblProducts join tblProductSales on tblProducts.Id = tblProductSales.ProductId where (Name='Product - 55' or Name='Product - 65' or Name like 'Product - 100%')

Transactions in SQL

02:06
Follow this tutorial to learn how to use Transactions in SQL and see how we can roll back to previous changes done in database. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ A transaction in SQL is basically the process of one or more changes being made in the database. In this tutorial we will learn the three basic controls of transactions in SQL which are COMMIT, ROLLBACK, and SAVEPOINT Step 1- Commit Command The Commit command is used to save the changes made in the database. To see its implementation, start by first beginning the transaction. Before starting any Transaction in SQL, we have to write the Begin Transaction statement. After that, write the actual action which is required, for example delete from the employee table, where the salary is greater than $2500. After that, write the Commit keyword which confirms that the query is logically correct and can be executed. The Query in this case would be: begin trandelete from EMP where SAL 2500 commit Now when we run the query, a message appears below the Query Editor which shows the number of rows that have been affected by our query. Step 2- Effect of Commit Command After that, fetch all the records from the employee table and it can be seen that all the records which have a salary above $2500 have been deleted. Step 3- Save Points Now let's examine the SAVE POINT command. To understand the concept, we will take an example of a departmental table. Start writing the query by beginning a transaction and then entering in the "Save Transaction" command followed by the transaction name. After that, let's delete a record with the Department number as 10 and then again save the transaction. This time, define the save point as point2. With that done, delete another department, and save the transaction, defining it as point3. Actual Query would be like this: begin tran save tran point1 delete from DEPT where DEPTNO=10 save tran point2 delete from DEPT where DEPTNO=20 save tran point3 After executing it, 2 rows would get affected. Step 4- Departments Deleted Now, see the department table to view the changes. For that, let's fetch all the records from the table. It can be seen that department "10" and "20" has been deleted from the table. Step 5- Roll Back If we want to track back to the previous changes, we can use the save points created earlier along with the Rollback transaction command. The rollback transaction allows us to remove all the modifications made to the data, either from the start of the transaction or to a defined save point. For that, we will use the rollback transaction statement and define the save point after that. Over here, let's roll back to point number 2. The Query would be: rollback tran point2 select * from DEPT Once we execute the query, and fetch all the records from the table, it can be seen that the table now contains the data up till point number 2 in the query. And this is how we can use Transactions in SQL.

Kendrick Scott Oracle - Conviction

Order Conviction: http://www.amazon.com/Conviction-Kendrick-Scott-Oracle/dp/B00A196QRQ/ Kendrick on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kendrick-Scott-Oracle/141221099242131 KENDRICK SCOTT ORACLE MANIFESTS THE DEEPER PURPOSE ON CONVICTION KSO's Debut Concord Jazz Release Explores Individual Values and One's Character With the 2007 release of The Source -- his debut recording as a leader -- drummer and composer Kendrick Scott established a reputation right out of the gate as an explorer, someone with a generous measure of wisdom and insight to counterbalance his youth and newcomer status. Nearly six years later, Scott and his band continue to dig beneath the surface to find the deeper truths in Conviction, their new CD scheduled for release on Concord Jazz on March 26, 2013 (international release dates may vary). As the title suggests, Conviction is the vehicle by which Kendrick and company look past the mundane and examine the motivating forces that propel us through life, even in those times when the greater truths are obscured by the tedium of the everyday. "The first record was almost like a potluck project," says Kendrick, who has developed associations with numerous high-profile jazz figures in the decade since his emergence from the Berklee scene in 2003. "There were so many of my friends and people whom I love to play with, and I wanted to have them all in one place on that record. But Conviction is something different. I wanted to make this more of a band statement. This current lineup of the band just molded itself around this music, and then took it in all different kinds of direction at the same time. It all came together so easily and so well." The streamlined version of Oracle on the new recording includes saxophonist and bass clarinetist John Ellis, guitarist Mike Moreno (the only member to also appear on The Source) pianist Taylor Eigsti and bassist Joe Sanders. Guest vocalist and guitarist Alan Hampton makes appearances on two tracks.

Update and Insert data in database from datagridview

07:27
Connect with me On LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bhubanshrestha Sometime user needs to update large amount of data in such case updating data from datagrid view is good choice because user gets all information in a row format. In this video tutorial you will learn how to update database table from datagrid view. You can insert, upadate and delete data of database from datagrid view. In this video tutorial deleting is not shown but it is very simple. Just select row then update. NOTE You have to include primary key column in data grid view. If you want to hide primary key column to user then you can achieve this by datagridview1.Columns[0].Visible=false ;//0 is the index of primary key column OR datagridview1.Columns["PrimaryKey"].Visible=false; //PrimaryKey is a column header text of primary key.

SET SHOWPLAN_TEXT : This set statement is used to get the detailed information about the transact SQL statement's execution (execution plan) without executing it. If we set this statement to ON then the SQL Server returns only the statement execution plan of the T-SQL statements in the current session until it is turn OFF. But, when you need more execution plan details such as resource required, estimated memory, estimated rows and etc, we have to use SET SHOWPLAN_ALL.

Governmental Accounting for Inventory (example based on Inventory but could be for other accounts requiring Fund Balances Reserved), 1-Purchasing Inventory using Encumbrance System, 2-Setting Up Fund Balance Reserves to match Inventory, Fund Balance Reserved Account (needed for funds that cannot be converted to Cash in current period),the encumbrance system sets up an encumbrance control account (for estimated expenditures) & associated fund balance reserved for encumbrances, (1) the encumbrance control account acts as a contra account to the unreserved (undesignated) fund balance, this acts as a control used to avoid over-spending for the designated fund, (2) the encumbrance control account & fund balance reserved for encumbrances is associated with the vouchers payable & expenditures control account, (3) the expenditures control (expense account) directly reduces the unreserved fund balance, (4) when the expense is realized the encumbrances control & fund balance reserved for encumbrances are reduced (by original amount estimated for the expense), (5) the encumbrances control & expenditures control are closed to the unreserved fund balance at the end of the period, The Fund Balance Reserved for Inventory has an offsetting entry to Unreserved, Undesignated Fund Balance, detailed accounting by Allen Mursau

Nikos Navridis "Try Again. Fail Again. Fail Better"

02:31
TRY AGAIN. FAIL AGAIN. FAIL BETTER." Aeschylea Festival 2013. Eleusis, Greece. A project by Nikos Navridis at the former oil and soap factory organized by the city of Eleusis with the support of OUTSET. The artistic project conceived by Nikos Navridis for Eleusis relates both to the specific site in which it is presented and to the current context of spiritual, social and economic crisis. While most of the artists invited on previous occasions displayed their works in the huge interior spaces of the factory, Nikos Navridis has accommodated them in exterior spaces, thus expanding the architectural and symbolic boundaries of both factory and city. He has used the whole courtyard of the factory to transform the dryness of the cement into a waving field of wheat and the long wall next to the entrance in the front space as well as the former circular tank to install sentences by Irish playwright Samuel Beckett. His choices regarding space, material, language and metaphor have enabled him to combine his own aesthetic, existential and political cosmography with the symbolism and dense history of Eleusis. Since classical antiquity the name Eleusis has been bound to the mystical cults of Demeter, Persephone and Hecate, a triad of goddesses that symbolises fertility of woman and earth. In Western culture Eleusis has remained associated with the awareness of the civilising process, the cyclic rebirth of agricultural crops and of human life itself. The echoes of this path of wisdom and transformation coexist in Eleusis with the story of multiple cases of destruction. Today, the most significant ones are those associated with industrialisation and the tertiary of service sector (a petrol refinery, the actual oil and soap factory, tourism, cultural consumption, etc.) and their consequent stages of development, decline and losses, often related to the flagrant unemployment rate in the region. Bearing this background in mind, Nikos Navridis has chosen to work with two basic materials that enable him to reinterpret the myth and think about the present. The first is the legendary Eulesian cereal, wheat, and the second is a sentence by Irish writer Samuel Beckett that is also, to a certain extent, legendary. In the large courtyard of the factory Navridis has created a field of wheat on the cement ground. By preserving the roots of the spikes and replanting them, one by one, on a mantle of earth covering the merciless aridity of the cement, he gives form to the hope for a new rebirth. By looking back at the ancestral art of agriculture he reasserts the need for a new agreement with the forces of the underworld, that are no longer those of the infernal gods of classical mythology but the relentless darkness of the ideology of progress. For Navridis, 'the literal, physical transportation of the field on the cement is a powerful conceptual metaphor of the meaning of human labor and it directly connects with Beckett's sentence "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better," that suggests all the efforts and the mistakes we made in the past and are still making in order to achieve what we believe is better.* The ideas of failure, perseverance and repetition are summed up here with a touch of hope. In the intervention Try Again. Fail Again. Fail Better, where dialectics is at once a connection and a separation between nature and language, Navridis continues to develop his artistic career, following a path that echoes the renewal of aesthetic languages and reveals his aspiration to conceive existential spaces as spiritual and political regions. Navridis is able to transform empty industrial spaces into symbolic sets in which Beckett's words, acting as a contemporary oracle, coexist with the absurd yet vital exercise of replanting the wheat as a symbol of the need to be responsible for our material and spiritual nourishment. * Beckett's statement appeared in his second last novel, Worstward Ho, published in 1983. (Excerpts from the catalogue essay by Rosa Martínez) Nikos Navridis lives and works in Athens. From 2008 he is teaching as professor to the Athens School of Fine Arts of Athens. He has performed numerous solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad: Always a Little Further, Arsenale, 51th Venice Biennial, Venice, Italy; Plateau of Humankind, 49th Venice Biennial, Greek Pavilion, Venice, Italy; Tomorrow will be a beautiful day, Bernier Eliades Gallery, Athens; Nikos Navridis, Difficult Breaths, La Caixa Foundation, Madrid, Spain; 2nd Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2003, Echigo Tsumari, Japan; Looking for a Place, 3rd International Biennial SITE Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA; On Life, Beauty, Translations and other Difficulties,5th International Istanbul Biennial, Istanbul, Turkey; Nikos Navridis, Museo Universitario Contemporáneo de Arte, Gallery, Mexico City, Mexico; Dematerialization-Nikos Navridis, 23rd Biennial of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
