We can also say that SQL tables are kind of data structure which are used by database for efficient storage of data. To create a table in our database we use SQL CREATE TABLE command. SQL CREATE TABLE is a type of DATA DEFINITION LANGUAGE also known as DDL. To Create a table in your schema you will require CREATE TABLE system privilege. In our future videos we will see what are system and object privileges and how to grant them to a user. Today for this video we will be using Sample schema HR which already has all the necessary privileges. Ohk Let's see the syntax. CREATE TABLE table name ( column name1 Data-Type(size), column name2 Data-Type(size), ..... ); CREATE TABLE is an oracle reserved word or say an Oracle key word whereas There are 3 different ways of creating a table in Oracle database. Creating a table using Command Line Interface (CLI) in Oracle database For demonstrating how to create table in oracle database using CLI, I'll be using Command prompt. Thats how we create table using command prompt. you can check your table structure by DESCRIBE command for that just write DESC and your table name. Like this Another way of creating a table is by using Graphic user interface (GUI) in Oracle database To demonstrate how to create table using GUI we will use SQL developer. Lets open our SQL developer I am connected to HR schema if you do not know how to create a connection to database using SQL developer please watch my oracle database tutorial 4 that explains database connectivity using SQL developer and command prompt. Link for this video is in the description below. So lets create a table. Creating a table using SQL developer is very easy we do not have to fire any query here. Let's start First of all right click on your connection in which you want to create a table and choose schema browser. This will open a separate schema browser pane or you can expend your connection by clicking this + sign and then right click on table and choose New Table. However I prefer working with schema browser so let's skip to schema browser pane here from the first drop-down list you can choose connection name and in the second drop down list you can choose what database objects you want to work with we want to create a table thus I'll choose table and then click this arrow here and choose option for new table Ok we have created a table wizard first of all give a unique name to your table and add some column as well. For this, click the green plus button. Now we already have a column so give it some name. Also choose a datatype from the list and specify any size you can check this not null column if in case you want to make this a mandatory column you can also specify default value and constraint If you want to make this column a primary key you can click here In my future video i'll show you what are these constraints and different ways of applying them on a column in a table. for this video we will concentrate on create table only so when you are done with all your columns click ok Thats your table You can double click on your table here and can see its structure. Thats it

Oracle Architecture

04:11
This video describes the best architecture of the oracle after trying more than times to Oracle structure I decided to produce an animated video let's start first with the database structure on the left side you have the client here on the right side you have to serve a two-year the server side is divided in three main structures to memory the logical structure and the physical structure so let's use SQL Plus application to provide you every step up a transaction will be using Scott sample schema it is important to note that the whole string is an alias and not a database name district will be compared to this alias inside of a file called pianist named doc or this file is similar to a DNS and with up pain all the necessary detail to reach a database server locally a user process will be allocated and will validate the connection through a listener the listener will be in charge to allocate a server process the user processes da link to the server process let's now execute our first transaction for this example we will execute an update first to state that will be validated we call this step the parsing this server process sense back to confirmation of the parsing that statement with be written into their share pool and the redo log buffer an execution plan will also be created it to the fair share Paul that database book they choose fought the transaction will be read and copy into the database buffer cache only that feel implicated in that transaction will be held it to a - segment till the transaction is completed we call those copies the before image a copy of this block will be duplicated with the updated feel this copy is called me after image a confirmation will be sent to to use a process the commit statement will complete the transaction and will be written into to redo log buffer to commit statement triggers the log writer process and we'll send all statement for the current transaction into the redo log file the before image into undo segment could be then deleted went that threshold up to undo retention parameters reach alaskan from Asian will be sent to the user process went to current law kiss Paul it generates a switch lock triggering at the same time the archiver process and to log sequence number the archiver will generate and archive the file with the content of the current loc a switch up with them trigger a checkpoint process that will incriminate the checkpoint number by applying this last number into each data file header the checkpoint process with finally trigger the database writer process enright the last image from that database buffer cache into thirty people

Accounts Payable vs. Accrued Expenses - Interview Question

12:44
Accounts Payable vs. Accrued Expenses on the 3 Financial Statements: Why Does It Matter? By http://breakingintowallstreet.com/ "Financial Modeling Training And Career Resources For Aspiring Investment Bankers" It's a common interview question! You may be asked about the differences between them, how changes are reflected on the 3 financial statements, and so on. And most Google search results on this topic are AWFUL and do not answer the actual question at all, or do so in a confusing way that misses the point (trust me, I looked). THE SHORT ANSWER: Accounts Payable (AP) and Accrued Expenses (AE) work in a VERY similar way... IF they both correspond to Operating Expense line items, or other items that appear directly on the Income Statement. However, AP is more likely to correspond to events such as the purchase of Inventory, which would NOT show up on the Income Statement initially, and so you're more likely to see different treatment with Accounts Payable (no Income Statement impact - just an Asset on the Balance Sheet increasing and AP on the Liabilities & Equity side increasing to balance the change). Both these items represent cases where we've INCURRED an expense but not actually paid for it in cash yet. Example 1: We get an invoice for a legal bill from a law firm we hired. They already performed the service, so we incurred the expense, but we haven't paid them in cash yet. Example 2: We pay rent at the beginning of each month. In between, that expense accrues because we use the building or office every day of the month... so it's not accurate just to view it as an expense on one day of the month, but rather an expense that gets accrued every single day and then paid in cash at the beginning of the month. Example 1 corresponds to Accounts Payable, because we typically use AP for items with specific invoices. Example 2 corresponds to Accrued Expenses, which we typically use for recurring, monthly/quarterly/weekly items WITHOUT specific invoices, such as rent, utilities, employees' wages, and so on. What Happens on the 3 Statements When AP or AE Change? IF they both correspond to COGS or Operating Expenses IN THE CURRENT PERIOD and therefore refer to actual expenses listed on the Income Statement: Let's use the example of AP or AE of $100 on the 3 statements: 1) Income Statement - Expenses (most likely OpEx) will increase by $100, reducing Pre-Tax Income by $100 and Net Income by $60 assuming a 40% tax rate. 2) Cash Flow Statement - Net Income is down by $60, but this expense we just recognized was non-cash, so we record the increase in AP or AE as a cash increase of $100. Our cash flow and ending cash at the bottom are up by $40. 3) Balance Sheet - Cash is up by $40 on the Assets side; on the L&E side, AP or AE is up by $100, but Retained Earnings is down by $60 due to the reduced Net Income, so both sides are up by $40. INTUITION: You've saved on taxes because you recorded an expense, took the tax deduction, and reduced your tax bill... but you haven't paid that expense in cash yet! It's all about the tax savings in this first step. Now, Step 2: What Happens When You Pay the AP or AE in Cash, For Real 1) No changes on the Income Statement - already recognized this as an expense! 2) Cash Flow Statement: Net Income is still down by $60... and now we REMOVE that adjusting entry for AP or AE, so cash no longer goes up by $100 from that. As a result, cash at the bottom is just down by $60. 3) Balance Sheet: Cash is now down by $60 rather than being up by $40, because we just paid that expense in cash. On the other side, AP or AE is now back to its old level and is no longer up by $100. Retained Earnings is still down by $60, so both sides are down by $60 and balance. BUT HERE'S THE IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM: AE almost always correspond to Operating Expenses or other Income Statement expense items... but Accounts Payable often do not. EXAMPLE: Company buys $100 of Inventory on credit - supplier sends over the Inventory, "in good faith," and sends the company an invoice, which goes to its Accounts Payable account. In this case, there are NO CHANGES on the Income Statement because nothing happens there until this Inventory is turned into products and sold to customers! Instead, Inventory on the BS simply goes up by $100, and AP on the other side goes up by $100 to balance it. That scenario happens a lot with AP, but very-rarely-to-never with AE. US GAAP vs. IFRS on the Financial Statements

21:58
You'll learn the key differences between US GAAP and IFRS on the 3 main financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement). By http://breakingintowallstreet.com/ "Financial Modeling Training And Career Resources For Aspiring Investment Bankers" You'll also learn how to adjust an international company's financial statements to make it easier to model and project over time. Table of Contents: 1:46 Why US GAAP vs. IFRS Matters 5:28 Income Statement Terminology Differences 7:34 Balance Sheet Differences 14:09 How to Adjust the Financial Statements for an IFRS Company 20:02 Recap and Summary Income Statement: The Income Statement is very similar regardless of the accounting system. Some items have different names (e.g., Revenue is often called Turnover and Net Income is often called Profit), but that's about it. Balance Sheet: There are more differences on the Balance Sheet - items are often arranged in a different order (sometimes Long-Term Assets are listed first, then Current Assets, then Equity, then Long-Term Liabilities and Current Liabilities at the end). The Balance Sheet itself is usually called the "Statement of Financial Position." Also, items within the Equity section often have different names: Common Stock is called "Share Capital" or "Issued Capital." Additional Paid-In Capital is often called the "Share Premium." Retained Earnings and Treasury Stock tend to have similar names. IFRS-based companies also have many "Reserve" categories for items such as FX translation differences and unrealized gains and losses. For US-based companies, these items show up within Accumulated Other Comprehensive Income (AOIC) rather than being split out into separate "Reserve" categories. But the FUNCTIONALITY of the Balance Sheet is still very similar (items still flow in and change the same way), even if items have different names or are grouped differently. Cash Flow Statement There are more differences on the Cash Flow Statement, because most US-based companies use the INDIRECT method and most international companies use the DIRECT method. The Indirect Method starts with Net Income, makes non-cash adjustments, and lists the changes in Working Capital in the Cash Flow from Operations section. The Direct Method simply lists the cash received from customers and cash paid to suppliers and employees, along with income taxes and interest and other expenses, and so you don't see the full details behind the non-cash adjustments and working capital spending. When this happens, it is much, much harder to link the financial statements because changes in items such as Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable won't flow into anything on the Cash Flow Statement. So we recommend ADJUSTING the financial statements as follows: First, find a reconciliation between this Cash Flow Statement and the company's operating income and/or net income. Then, make the Cash Flow Statement start with Net Income instead, as it normally does, and include all the line items from this reconciliation (non-cash adjustments, Working Capital changes, etc.). And if there are still remaining differences between items such as income taxes and interest expense on the Income Statement vs. Cash Flow Statement, make adjusting entries on the CFS that indicate the true cash amount that a company paid for those. What is Oracle Exadata Smart Scan (Demonstration)

03:47
How does Oracle Exadata Smart Scan work? What is Smart Scan. How to insure Oracle is offloading work to the Storage Tier? Learn this and more in this demonstration by OC Master John Watson of SkillBuilders. See all 11 lessons in this tutorial at http://skillbuilders.com/exadata-tutorials. John Watson: I want to show you very briefly how offload Smart Scan or flow processing can actually function. I'm working here just in the little demonstration Scott schema. I'll enable auto tracing so that we can see the effect on execution plans, which will also show me whether offload processing is indeed possible. So it's a simple query. I'll use a function here to check that to get offloaded as well as the column selection and the row selection and column projection. We'll have a predicate. Right. So there is the statement. It returned these three scalar values, as you would expect. How was this actually executed? There was a select statement, then it was executed, table access full. That's the only way to run that statement given the index on that table because in the middle of this, we see the key word, "storage." That key word tells me that this statement could indeed be offloaded to the storage tier. Furthermore, we see down here in the predicate information, "storage." That key word again tells me that the row filtering could have been done by the storage tier. So what happened is that the storage tier did not return every block of the empty* table to the database buffer cache, where my session would then have had to extract these values. All it returned to the instance was these three scalar values directly into the PGA of my server process. Now, there's also the initcap function there. Was that offloadable or not? There is a view "Read our SQL fm letter data," and that will tell us for each function whether or not it can be offloaded. So, just select its name, whether it's offloadable. Declare offloadable as yes and put in a sort order as well, and we see that in the current release, there are 393 functions that can be offloaded. Which ones? All the typecasting functions, truncations, trims. These are functions that get executed millions of times an hour in many, many environments. Note here two particularly important ones, balloon filters. The offload capability for balloon filters allows us to offload joins or facts to dimension tables. Those two in star schemas can be offloaded. The function I used was, in fact, initcap. Just for completeness, we'll scroll through all of these and we'll see that initcap itself is an offloadable function, and there it is along with many others. There are two classes of function that cannot be offloaded, and those are the aggregation functions and the analytic functions. I mention them just for completeness. There's an architectural issue there because aggregations and analytics potentially require access to all rows in the table. The row might be distributed across a cell. So it's a technical issue why they can't be offloaded, but virtually, all other functions can be offloaded with terrific drops in CPU usage, and combining that with the reduction of data traffic into the instances will give us vast performance improvements.

LEARNING APPROACH TO SQL QUERY RESULTS RANKING USING SKYLINE AND USERS' CURRENT

20:04
Users often find that their queries against a database return too many answers, many of them irrelevant. A common solution is to rank the query results. The effectiveness of a ranking function depends on how well it captures users' preferences. However, database systems often do not have the complete information about users' preferences are often Heterogeneous (i.e., some preferences are static and common to all users while some are dynamic and diverse).

I'm always looking for new video ideas. Let me know what video you'd like for me to create. --- Video Transcript Time - 00:00 In this video, I will provide an overview of Java JDBC. We will cover the following topics. What is JDBC? We'll also discuss the features of JDBC in terms of SQL statements. Then we'll see the databases that are supported. Next, we will cover the architecture and API of JDBC. Finally, we will walk through the development process for executing a simple query. Time - 00:32 JDBC allows a Java application to connect to a relational database. The major databases are supported such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, DB2 and many others. The database can be located on the same local machine as in the application. It can also be located in a network in a remote location. The database can also be deplored in the Cloud. No worries, JDBC can still give you to a connection to the database regardless of the location. Time - 01:08 The main feature of JDBC is that it is a standard API. You develop your application code to the JDBC API and you can connected to various databases. There's no need to develop code for different databases. That's the main advantage of JDBC. JDBC is a call level interface that supports ANSI SQL 2003. When you provide SQL statements to the JDBC driver, it simply passes the SQL to the database. You can make use of SQL to perform select, insert, update and delete. Time - 01:43 You can also build complex SQL series queries with inner and outer joins. You can also make calls to store procedures on the database. As you can see, JDBC does not place any limitations on your SQL development. You are free to leverage ANSI SQL 2003 to meet your application requirements. Time - 02:04 Here's a nice graphic of the databases that are supported by JDBC. As you can see, there's support for Oracle, My SQL, Informix, DB2, SQL Server, Sybase, PostgreS and many others. Note, this is not an exhaustive list. You can simply visit the URL here to see a complete list of databases. Time - 02:26 The JDBC architecture includes a key component which is the JDBC driver. The JDBC driver provides the critical link between your Java application and the database. The driver converts the standard JDBC API calls to low level calls for your specific database. There are multiple JDBC driver implementations. Your database vendor normally provides the JDBC driver. Simply visit the database vendor's website and search for the words JDBC driver. The vendors will provide the link to download the driver along with supporting documentation on how to connect to the database. Time - 03:06 Another key player is the driver manager. The driver manager helps connect and app to the database based on a database connection stream. The current version of JDBC is version 4.0. with this latest version, the driver manager will automatically load JDBC drivers that are in the application's classpath. No additional work is required by the developer. Time - 03:36 Most JDBC drivers are now JDBC 4.0 compliant. However, there are Legacy JDBC 3.0 drivers that have to be specifically loaded with Java code. That Java code is class.forname and the actual driver name. The JDBC API is defined in two packages. java.sql and javax.sql. The key classes in the API are driver manager, connection, statement, results set and data source. Time - 04:16 Great. We've covered a lot of the theory, a lot of the key concepts and classes. Now, let's walk through an actual development process for a simple query. The process is, step one, we'll get a connection to a database. Then in step two, we'll actually create a statement object. Then step three, we'll execute a SQL query. Then finally in step four, we'll process the results set. [snip] click the Transcript tab for complete transcript.

The 27 minute speech by Dalai Lama on Dorje Shugden (Tibetan)

27:49
During the recent Jangchub Lamrim teachings at Sera Monastery (December 25, 2013 to January 3, 2014) in Bylakuppe, the Dalai Lama spoke again on the issue of his banning the practice of Dorje Shugden that he initiated in 1996. It has been over 17 years since the Dalai Lama first shocked the Tibetan Buddhist world by declaring, quite out of the blue, that the ancient deity Dorje Shugden who for over three centuries has been worshipped by a large proportion of the Tibetan population as the wrathful emanation of the Buddha of Wisdom, was henceforth a demon and not to be worshipped anymore. It was the first time in modern history that a religion has been banned and the perpetrator awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. And in the years since the illegal ban was enforced, there have been tremendous upheavals within the Tibetan and Gelug community. Even as the Tibetan people were struggling to establish a life in exile, they now had to contend with either abandoning their faith which for many was all they had, or run afoul of a man who was definitely not to be crossed. Many lives were destroyed which is understandable especially when one takes into account that for most Tibetans, religion is the foundation of their life's purpose. This is especially true of monks and to ban their Buddha is to remove, with a fell swoop, their purpose for living. For years, the ban ravaged the fabric of Tibetan Buddhism that was very much defined by the devotion of a student for his teacher. And so, when the Dalai Lama proclaimed last year that he would thereafter no longer speak in public and condemn Dorje Shugden and its practitioners, many Tibetans thought that perhaps it was time to allow themselves to hope again. It is understandably extremely disappointing that the Dalai Lama should so blatantly go back on the promise he made in December last year and resume his assault on the worshippers of Dorje Shugden, setting an unfortunate example that it is acceptable for a monk not only to create disharmony within the community but also to not keep to his word given to others. To add insult to an already serious injury inflicted on the average Tibetan, the substance of what the Dalai Lama said in his most recent diatribe was recognized to be patently untrue. And for the Dalai Lama to commit such an atrocity against the Dharma during the occasion of the teachings of the Jangchup Lamrim, turning a monastery into the site of another witch-hunt, was just obscene...
