How To Tell If There Is An Oracle OS Memory Shortage - Webinar

01:18:37
How To Tell If There Is An OS Memory Shortage - Webinar An operating system memory shortage can cause very strange and intense performance situations. In this webinar, we will explore different ways to tell if there is a memory shortage and how this affects Oracle processes. Using a simple shell script, Craig is moving towards slowing increased memory usage. Then, we will watch what is happening using the vmstat, iostat and sar commands. And of course, we will also be monitoring the active Oracle sessions, key SQL statement elapsed times and key throughput metrics. As you will see, a memory bottleneck (rather, memory pressure) can cause some really strange performance behavior.

Oracle TO_DATE Function Explained with Examples

06:14
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-to_date/ The Oracle TO_DATE function is one of the most useful conversion functions in Oracle. It can be a little confusing though. The TO_DATE function is used to convert a character value to a date value. You can use it to convert a string that is in the format of a date, into a date data type. Why would you use this? Converting a character to a date is helpful if you want to insert a date into a column in a table. Being specific about the format (explicit) is better than assuming the conversion will be done for you (implicit). This TO_DATE function only converts to a DATE data type. If you want to convert to the other datetime data types, you’ll have to use other functions such as TO_TIMESTAMP or TO_TIMESTAMP_TZ. The syntax for this function is: TO_DATE(charvalue [, format_mask [, nls_date_language]]) The parameters for this function are: Charvalue: This is the character value that you want to convert to a date. It’s the main input of the function. Format_mask: This is the format that the input value, the charvalue, is in. This is used to help convert your character value into a date, as your character may be in a different format to the default. Nls_date_language: this is used to determine how the output is displayed. For more information about the Oracle TO_DATE function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-to_date/

Oracle CURRENT_DATE Function

01:54
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-date-functions/ The Oracle CURRENT_DATE function is used to return the current date in the session timezone. The session timezone is the timezone that the current user is logging in from. This can be different from the database’s timezone. The syntax of the CURRENT_DATE function is: CURRENT_DATE No parameters are needed - just the function name. The function returns a DATE data type, and it includes hours, minutes, and seconds. This is good to know because the default display format for DATE does not include the time component, and it can be easy to forget. It’s different to the SYSDATE function as SYSDATE returns the date in the database timezone, and CURRENT_DATE returns the date in the session time zone. So, if I’m logging in from Melbourne, Australia, and the database is in London, England, then the CURRENT_DATE will return a date and time that’s 10 hours ahead of SYSDATE. It may be on the same day, or it could be a different day, depending on when I run the function. You can perform arithmetic on this function just like any other date value (e.g. CURRENT_DATE - 7 for 7 days ago). For more information about the Oracle CURRENT_DATE function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-date-functions/

Hierarchical Queries: Databases for Developers #16

Often data contains a parent-child relationship between rows in the same table. For example, company org charts and family trees. You can use the power of SQL to traverse these hierarchical relationships. There are two ways to do this in Oracle Database: - Connect By - Recursive With Watch this video to learn about data trees and find out how these work! The New Kid on the Block: Spring Data JDBC

01:04:53
Spring Data is mostly known as a way to create Repositories as described in Domain Driven Design (DDD) for persistence technologies like JPA, MongoDB, Redis, and others. We now support another technology: JDBC. Spring Data JDBC is an opinionated library for persisting your data to a relational database. This talk will describe the current state of Spring Data JDBC, its features and the underlying design decisions, especially how the Spring Data team attempts to walk the tightrope of offering a DDD-based API and at the same time allow precise control of each and every SQL statement issued to the database. After this talk, the audience will be able to make a well-grounded decision if Spring Data JDBC is worth to look into for their specific challenges and what to expect from it. AskTOM Office Hours: SmartDB Separation of Concerns through APIs

58:37
Held on June 19 2018 Should the database be used as a persistence layer only, or a full-fledged processing engine that runs business logic too? We call the latter the #SmartDB approach. Use these sessions to explore with Bryn Llewellyn and Toon Koppelaars the #SmartDB approach for building secure, high performance applications on Oracle Database through PL/SQL APIs. In this session, we asserted that SmartDB means exactly that the only database user(s) for which outside-of-the-database clients know the connect credentials own empty schemas and have no privileges except for the designed set of PL/SQL subprograms that jointly define the database’s API. We classified these API subprograms into two groups: XAPIs—which change data; and QAPIs which only read data. We stressed that each XAPI subprogram must have “commit” as its last ordinary executable statement—and that each must issue rollback if an error occurs. We stressed too that “commit” may be done ONLY in a XAPI subprogram. We went on to discuss the possible use of a TAPI (table API) in pursuit of DRY in the implementation of XAPIs and QAPIs. And we were able to separate the notion of generation (not restricted to juts TAPIs) from the notion of the TAPI itself, as a PL/SQL encapsulation of operations upon a single table. 01:22 Separation of Concerns through APIs by Toon 23:02 Q&A Begins AskTOM Office Hours offers free, monthly training and tips on how to make the most of Oracle Database, from Oracle product managers, developers and evangelists. https://asktom.oracle.com/ Oracle Developers portal: https://developer.oracle.com/ Sign up for an Oracle Cloud trial: https://cloud.oracle.com/en_US/tryit music: bensound.com

Delete, Drop, and Truncate Statements in Hive

06:41
Delete, Drop, and Truncate Statements in Hive Delete Statement: Delete statement is used to delete certain rows from a table based on a condition specified using the WHERE clause. The syntax is in below as highlighted. DELETE FROM tablename [WHERE expression]; Note: DELETE statement is available from hive 0.14.0 version and above Drop Statement: The drop table statement is used to drop the table altogether. The syntax is highlighted here: DROP TABLE IF EXISTS TABLENAME; Let’s quickly see how the managed table and external table differs when dropping the table. We have already discussed this in the “Two different types of hive tables” video. Take a look at it if you haven’t. For the managed hive tables, the drop table statement removes the metadata information as well as the data. The data will be actually moved to .Trash/Current directory. metadata will be permanently deleted. However for external tables, only the metadata information is permanently deleted and the actual data remains intact in the hdfs directories. So in the case of external table, if the table was deleted accidentally, then the table can be re-created by using the same schema and specifying the same location for the hdfs data directory. If deleting the external table was the intention, then after deleting the table using the drop statement, you may also delete the underlying hdfs data directory by issuing the hdfs dfs -rm command. Truncate Statement: Truncate table statement is used to remove only the data from the table. The table structure with the schema remains intact. Truncate removes all the rows from a table or partition. The syntax is highlighted below. TRUNCATE table syntax TRUNCATE TABLE TABLENAME;

Oracle "summer happenings" a the Broad Museum

01:01
August’s Summer Happening is inspired by themes of globalization, surveillance and the underlying systems and forces at work in the world that make up the current exhibition Oracle. Oracle the Happening strives to reclaim that heightened experience and anxiety as artists pick up abundant stereotypes and play prophet, sage, historian and cheerleader. A Place to Bury Strangers performs what could be a soundtrack for the apocalypse, while Xiu Xiu make music for people opposed to and opposed by the horror and disquiet of life. Transformative performance artist Linda Mary Montano offers healings and blessings, and Keijaun Thomas will perform his work, “Distance is not Separation”. The third-floor galleries will feature a Xenolalia room – the Christian missionary spirit gift or ability to speak in an unlearned language – with poets Raquel Gutiérrez, Elliot Reed and Lisa Teasley, and musicians Gabie Strong, Pauline Gloss and David Harrow 8 - 8:50 p.m. | Arshia Haq + Amy Alexander on the Plaza Stage 8:45 - 9:15 p.m. | Linda Mary Montano + Ron Athey in the Plaza 9 - 9:50 p.m. | Xiu Xiu on the Plaza Stage 9:15 - 11:45 p.m. | Linda Mary Montano + Kae Whalen in the Lobby 9:30 - 11:30 p.m. | The Xenolalia Room: Lisa Teasley + David Harrow, Raquel Gutierrez + Gabie Strong, and Elliot Reed + Pauline Gloss in Gallery 303 10:10 - 11 p.m. | A Place to Bury Strangers on the Plaza Stage 10:15 - 11:45 p.m. | Keijaun Thomas in the Oculus Hall Guest Curators Ron Athey is a performance artist associated with Los Angeles music scenes, body art and a 1990s response to HIV/AIDS. His first outing was Premature Ejaculation, a noise/actionist group started with Rozz Williams in 1981. Athey has toured performance projects internationally, including commissions from the English Arts Council, MADRE Napoli and Kampnagel Hamburg. In 2013 Dominic Johnson produced an extensive monograph on Intellect Press: Pleading in the Blood: The Art and Life of Ron Athey. Curatorially, Athey has, alongside his collaborator Vaginal Davis, co-curated the Visions of Excess events at Platinum Oasis/OUTFEST, Fierce Festival Birmingham, UK and Aksioma/Kapelica at Castle Codelli in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Athey is currently working on a participant-based automatism project with the composer and opera director Sean Griffin. James Spooner is a working artist from New York living in Los Angeles. He first gained recognition with his critically acclaimed cult documentary "Afro-punk," which provided the inspiration for the Afropunk festivals that James also co-founded and co-curated for 4 years before leaving the organization. He has spent the last decade tattooing in his Los Angeles private studio Monocle Tattoo, where he developed a pioneering vegan tattoo procedure. Currently he is finishing his first graphic novel in which he is both the author and illustrator. More info https://www.thebroad.org/programs/summer-happenings-broad-oracle

Store data from PowerApps in sql, approve it in flow and use it in Power bI

34:30
In today's video we will create a PowerApp that will store stopwords in a SQL table on an on-prem server. The PowerApp will log the user of the app and a timestamp. After the stopword is sent to sql, a flow will be started to approve the new word. The data will then be imported in Power BI where the words will be excluded from the Word Cloud for test analysis.
