We loved it. It combined two of the things we are working to accomplish -- inviting people to classical music and inspiring young musicians. Steven Sharp Nelson had soloed with the orchestra the previous year and loved the spirit and the talent that the orchestra showed at such young ages (ages 13-18!) Together we developed the concept of "Beethoven's 5 Secrets," combining OneRepublic's tune "Secrets" with melodies and moments from all four movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony. We used 5 different melodies from the 4 movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony (not including the "bridge" the orchestra plays in the middle). Try to guess where they are and where they come from! What are Beethoven's secrets? He had many. His most prominent secret that he desperately tried to keep from the public and that caused him to be considered extremely eccentric, irritable, and hermit-like was his "weakness." He was deaf during most of his life. Imagine that...one of the greatest composers that ever lived could hardly hear. And yet, he wrote his life's greatest works after becoming deaf. He believed that art itself had "secrets" that had to be "forced into" in order to obtain art's highest level. There is no doubt Beethoven discovered many of the "secrets" of art -- people all over the world enjoy them every day. He was a true master of music, blessed by God. This piece and video are dedicated to him. 50 Cent Power FEUD with Starz ends as He gets MILLIONS and More Control for his Power TV Show 50 Cent praised 'Power' finale but blasted its network broadcaster 50 Cent was one of the biggest stars hip-hop produced in the 2000s, a muscled and menacing, yet imperturbably cool presence with a near-mythic backstory. The protégé of Dr. Dre and Eminem, 50 Cent made music that was both gangsta and good fun. His 2003 debut, the nine-times-platinum Get Rich or Die Tryin', made him a star. Though his popularity diminished somewhat by the end of decade, 50 Cent's bank account didn't suffer since he also spent the 2000s establishing himself as a hip-hop entrepreneur. Dogged Determination: Insights Into the Development Process and Key Technologies Used by Naughty Dog http://xxi.sinfo.org/index.php/home/schedule/lectures/jason-gregory/ Slides: http://www.gameenginebook.com/coursemat.html The talk: The talk will attempt to reveal some of the "secrets" of Naughty Dog's success as a game developer. I'll cover the high-level structure of the company, our overall development process and "best practices" that enable us to produce award-winning games. I'll also explore some of our keystone technologies -- the foundations upon which our game engine is built. These include optimization techniques for modern superscalar CPU architectures, best practices in memory allocation, empowering content creators through script and data-driven systems, and taking advantage of parallel hardware via concurrent jobs. The goal of the talk is to provide your students with a high-level picture of how we make games. But more importantly, I want to provide attendees with some solid advice that they can apply to their own endeavors, as they graduate and move on the start their own software companies or join existing ones. While Naughty Dog is a game development studio, most of the ideas I'll cover are applicable to any small- to mid-sized software development operation. So my hope is that attendees who are targeting a career in non-games software production will also find the talk interesting and relevant. Bio: Jason Gregory has worked as a professional software engineer since 1994. He got his start in game programming in 1999 at Midway Home Entertainment in San Diego, where he wrote tools and engine code, including the Playstation 2/Xbox animation system for Freaky Flyers, Hydro Thunder 2 and Crank the Weasel. In 2003, Jason moved to Electronic Arts Los Angeles, where he worked on engine and game play technology for Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault and served as a lead engineer during the Medal of Honor: Airborne project. Jason is currently a lead programmer at Naughty Dog Inc., where he most recently completed work on The Last of Us. He also developed engine and gameplay technology for Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, and taught courses in game technology at the University of Southern California.

http://www.redgamingtech.com/ps4-architecture-naughty-dog-sinfo-analysis-technical-breakdown/ - full article http://www.facebook.com/redgamingtech - Follow us on Facebook! A new light has been shined on the Playstation 4′s architecture thanks to Naughty Dog during their lecture at SINFO. This lecture is pretty damn technical, and several viewers / readers requested that I do a technical breakdown of this. So here I sit, a pack of lockets, hot drinks and a stack of white papers and technical reference documents. I feel that a little technical information on the Playstation 4 is required before we begin with a breakdown of Naughty Dog's SINFO documentation. It's a prerequisite to understand how this works, and while many of you may know the info, it's good to go over a slight refresh, isn't it? Refresher on the PS4′s technical specs The Playstation 4 console is of course the sequel to the PS3, and despite the two architectures being quite different, the PS4 is a great logical step. The main CPU is an X86-64 CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computing) AMD Jaguar CPU. The 64 part means (among other things) the AMD Jaguar can address greater than 4GB of RAM. The CISC vs RISC we've discussed before in a previous article (Why the PS4 & Xbox One Moved to X86 CISC) and I'd highly recommend you check it out. Aside from that, the PS4′s CPU is 8 cores (6 available to games developers), that's four jaguar cores per each of the two modules. We're still unsure of the PS4′s clock speed however. http://www.redgamingtech.com/ps4-architecture-naughty-dog-sinfo-analysis-technical-breakdown/ - full article for the rest of the article Royalty Free Music - www.audiomicro.com/royalty-free-music

Shortly before they ceased to exist, Troika released this video. It shows what their new engine was capable of. And it shows what kind of game they were planning on making. In an interview with Duck and Cover Tim Cain had this to say about the cancelled project: "We had begun the development of a really interesting take on the post apocalyptic genre. The background was about as different from Fallout that you could get while looking a great deal like that game. We had made our own modern 3D engine to drive it, complete with real-time shadows and incredibly smooth character animation. Jason [Anderson], Leonard [Boyarsky] and I wrote a background and system specification that would have made for a very rich game world to set adventures in, but we never found a publisher that was interested." The music Troika used is "The Prophecy Theme" by Brian Eno. You can find it on the original Dune soundtrack.

The Shroud of Turin hologram reveals a lost message theough 3D imaging. This video presents the latest discoveries related to the Shroud of Turin: beneath the beard of Jesus, in the neck area, what appears to be the imprint of a solid, oval shaped (apparently wooden) pendent with the ancient Hebrew inscription עאנ (meaning "The Lamb") has been discovered by scientists analyzing the shroud. When photographed, the shroud shows evidence of resembling an X-Ray—the teeth and roots of the teeth behind the lips can be seen. Furthermore, the long fingers reveal the bone structure of the fingers and wrists underneath just as it would if an X-Ray were taken of the hands and teeth. The shroud is encoded with 3D information that is found from the spaces between the highest and lowest points of the body and its distance from the cloth. Recently, a VP-8 analyzer that gives topographical information about the moon and Mars terrain, was used on the cloth. Sure enough, a 3D #HolographicImage formed of a man's face and body. The digitized Shroud photographs used in the 3D imaging were taken by Giuseppe Enrie in 1931. Those images were enhanced to improve details, translating the gray scale data into depth data, generating a sequence of up to 625 images of each of these, and combining these images with a Holoprinter to produce holograms. Later dated photographs do not provide the numerous details complementary to the development of holographic images. What could possibly cause a 3D image of a man to form on a two dimensional flat piece of cloth? The consensus of the science team is that most likely radiation coming from within the crucified body caused this 3D effect to occur on the shroud itself. Chemist Giulio Fanti proposes that a burst of radiant energy caused the image on the cloth. It might have come from bright light, ultraviolet light, X-rays or fundamental particles emanating from within the body itself. One need only to (re)read the account of Christ's Transfiguration from Luke 9:29 in order to surmise that such an event took place: "As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening." (NKJV) In 1996, Dr. August Accetta injected radioactive technetium into his bloodstream and aimed a gamma camera at his body, capturing photos in much the same way doctors use the common procedure to make an image of a patient's internal organs. What he found were striking similarities between his radioactive body image and the image on the shroud. In a paper called "Nuclear Medicine and Its Relevance to the #ShroudOfTurin", Dr. Accetta hypothesized that if a corpse created the Shroud image, then the source of energy received by the cloth might be from the molecular bond energy and/or nuclear forces within the body in some way interacting with the cloth. "Accetta says only a miraculous event fully explains the image's sophistication. He thinks that when Jesus' body transmuted into a more subtle state, the shroud that had been covering the body began falling through the body by gravity. As the cloth dropped, Accetta theorizes it picked up corresponding energy—and corresponding 3-D information" (Orange County Register). Particle physicist Isabel Piczek suggests that the resurrection may have been caused by an event horizon, accompanied by forces above and below the body causing the shroud to become taut, where quantum time collapses to absolute zero, with the body hovering parallel to both with gravity suspended—explaining why the cloth's image is a negative film of a dead man on the front and back sides of the cloth. This had to be a mild or very weak event horizon (unlike the force of an event horizon of a black hole or the Big Bang). Indeed, as it stands today the Bible's written accounts of the death, burial, and resurrection occurrences describe earthquakes, a darkening of the sky at midday, and appearances and disappearances of the risen Lord #Jesus in the weeks following. Someday these events may be fully explained by physics as well as by the miraculous such as that proposed by Dr. Piczek. In fact, Gary Habermas notes that one of the original physicists analyzing the shroud declared, "The image on the shroud appears to have been caused by something like millions of micro-lasers shooting out of every pore in his body, scorching the cloth simultaneously". In 2011, a team of researchers from the National Agency for New Technologies (ENEA) replicated something similar to the Turin cloth's image on linen. They utilized excimer laser irradiation in 40 nanosecond bursts, thus somewhat creating an image matching the coloration and depth of the Shroud's image (2011 NBC News). This reminds Christians of a passage in 1 Corinthians 15:52 that tells us we will be changed in the "twinkling of an eye" when we are resurrected, something akin to a 40 nanosecond burst of light. Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky played Fallout 1 on Obsidion's Extra Life Charity stream, and answered a couple of interesting questions. Tim Cain has plans for a Fallout 3 that are all his own, and apparently exist from before Bethesda's Fallout 3 was made. Apparently he also has a copy of the Fallout 2 source code, which is big news for those still modding Fallout 2. I don't know how long this link will work, but here is the section where Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky play Fallout 1: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/334447208?t=06h47m02s Please leave comments and like or subscribe! Beethoven - Symphony No. 5 (FULL) - Symphony No. 5 in C minor The four-note opening motif are known worldwide, with the motif appearing frequently in popular culture, from disco versions to rock and roll covers, to uses in film and television. http://twitter.com/YtAndrearomano6 http://www.facebook.com/9BeethovenFan 1 First movement: Allegro con brio 2 Second movement: Andante con moto 3 Third movement: Scherzo. Allegro 4 Fourth movement: Allegro The Symphony No. 5 in C minor of Ludwig van Beethoven, Op. 67, was written between 1804–1808. It is one of the best-known compositions in classical music, and one of the most frequently played symphonies. First performed in Vienna's Theater an der Wien in 1808, the work achieved its prodigious reputation soon afterward. E. T. A. Hoffmann described the symphony as "one of the most important works of the time". The symphony consists of four movements. Since the Second World War it has sometimes been referred to as the "Victory Symphony". "V" is the Roman character for the number five; the phrase "V for Victory" became well known as a campaign of the Allies of World War II. That Beethoven's Victory Symphony happened to be his Fifth (or vice versa) is coincidence. Some thirty years after this piece was written, the rhythm of the opening phrase – "dit-dit-dit-dah" – was used for the letter "V" in Morse code, though this is probably also coincidental. The BBC, during World War Two, prefaced its broadcasts to Europe with those four notes, played on drums. The Fifth Symphony had a long development process, as Beethoven worked out the musical ideas for the work. The first "sketches" (rough drafts of melodies and other musical ideas) date from 1804 following the completion of the Third Symphony. However, Beethoven repeatedly interrupted his work on the Fifth to prepare other compositions, including the first version of Fidelio, the Appassionata piano sonata, the three Razumovsky string quartets, the Violin Concerto, the Fourth Piano Concerto, the Fourth Symphony, and the Mass in C. The final preparation of the Fifth Symphony, which took place in 1807–1808, was carried out in parallel with the Sixth Symphony, which premiered at the same concert. Beethoven was in his mid-thirties during this time; his personal life was troubled by increasing deafness. In the world at large, the period was marked by the Napoleonic Wars, political turmoil in Austria, and the occupation of Vienna by Napoleon's troops in 1805. The symphony was written at his lodgings at the Pasqualati House in Vienna. The final movement quotes from a revolutionary song by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle.

http://www.redgamingtech.com/ubisoft-gdc-presentation-of-ps4-x1-gpu-cpu-performance/ http://www.facebook.com/redgamingtech - Follow us on Facebook! It’s an understatement to say Ubisoft have been front and center when it comes to controversy of late, whether it be frame rate, resolution, graphical downgrades or perhaps the most dreaded term of all, visual parity. Recently, a viewer and reader contacted me on Facebook and pointed out a rather interesting technical document I’d missed from GDC Europe 2014, where Alexis Vaisse, the Lead Programmer over at Ubisoft Montpellier goes into details of the GPU and CPU performance of both machines. During this conference Alexis pushed home the importance of reduction of workload on the new systems CPU’s. Not only do Ubisoft show the relative GPU performance of the PS4 GPU vs the Xbox one’s (which we cover at the end), but also highlight the rather obvious performance differential between the AMD Jaguar’s which power both the PS4 and X1 and the previous generation consoles (the PS3′s SPU’s in particular were noted). So with the preface out of the way, let’s get on with the show. http://www.redgamingtech.com/ubisoft-gdc-presentation-of-ps4-x1-gpu-cpu-performance/ Royalty Free Music - www.audiomicro.com/royalty-free-music

http://youtu.be/BNAn0XbT3UM BEFORE WATCHING ________________________________________________________________ This is my attempt at facilitating and educating more Australians on things like Copyright Law or Copyright Infringement. I do not endorse THEFT. Please take the time and listen to both sides and feel free to comment in the section provided. I do not mind if you outsource this video either and please do, as more people should be included in what we can actually KNOW. UPLOADER OPINION ________________________________________________________________ 1. There should be a line drawn between THEFT and COPYING 2. Creativity/Culture will never be lost, even if Copyright Laws fail, as it is the cheapest, if not only free AND legal thing left in this world. People will always have a desire to improve and create. 3. Sharing is caring. Think about how much you have learnt because other people have given you their ideas. 4. By removing Copyright means another step towards the downfall of giant monopolies, removal of economy and no more GOD DAMNED money and a step closer to a world where we can SHARE as a whole, rather than TRADING as separate countries and look further to exploration in space where all our precious natural resources are just sitting, and the mining of such resources would not be killing us all (WAR/DESTRUCTION OF ENVIRONMENT/DISEASE,ETC). 5. Don't get me started on what I think about Vaccinations or September 11.... or America in general. Love the people, but then again I always confuse love for pity. ABOUT THE VIDEO _________________________________________________________________ Copyright is Dead. Long Live the Pirates. Is copyright and copyright law a battle that's over? Technological change moves much too fast for the legalities of implementing protection of ownership. How can we ensure a return to the originator of the music, the book, the film, the television series? There's some brilliant television being produced and the trick is to download it as fast as we can...illegally. Hundreds of thousands of us aren't paying for what we view. Why should we pay? We don't need to wait for a series to be delivered in the old fashioned way when we can get it for free from the internet. Traditional book publishing has also taken a massive hit; but there's a boom in digital publishing and in pirated books. Book publishing has been taken to the cleaners in pretty much the same way as the music industry. Does it follow that artists, writers and musicians will cease publishing because it's no longer economically viable? What will happen to the very notion of intellectual property? Do we just give up? There's passionate arguments from both sides of the debate. Arguing for the proposition is Angela Daly, Simon Groth and Suelette Dreyfus. Arguing against the pirates is Michael Fraser, Lori Flekser and Elmo Keep. This is another IQ2 debate, this time at the Melbourne Town Hall and under the auspices of The Wheeler Centre and the St James Ethics Centre. Michael Williams from The Wheeler Centre drives the debate.

While some domainers allegedly brainstorm ideas for new domains to register while taking a shower, the more successful domain portfolio managers, working at scale, are believed to be ‘data driven.’ DNS queries are a material source of intelligence about domainer opportunities and operations, and also help us to understand the operational constraints around potentially combating domainers, should we want to do so. In this presentation co-authored with Farsight Security Scientist Dr. Joe St Sauver, Farsight Security CEO Dr. Paul Vixie will scrutinize failed DNS queries (‘NXDOMAINs’), looking for the same ‘opportunities’ that a domainer or typo squatter would (although we will not be acting on that data by actually registering domains). Dr. Vixie will discuss two primary types of behavior: 1) Volumetrically-driven typo-squatting, which Dr. Vixie will measure by computing the volume of NXDOMAINs seen by domain during a 24 hour period, and the time between popular typos appearing in NXDOMAINs and those same domains being registered and actually used, and 2) Domainers programmatically exploring permutations of domains around high value domains, probing for available domains and automatically registering the most promising probed domains discovered to still be available. Both of these hypothesized behaviors should be externally observable and thus able to be confirmed by watching a real-time stream of NXDOMAIN errors, and a real-time stream of newly observed, actually-registered domains, as available from the Security Information Exchange. Dr. Paul Vixie will experimentally confirm these hypothesized relationships and describe examples of (1) the most commonly observed types of typographical errors, (2) the brands apparently most-targeted for squatting, (3) the distribution of delays from NXDOMAIN detection to observed domain use, (4) the potential relationship between NXDOMAIN volume thresholds and TLD cost. Dr. Vixie will also explain how this information illuminates opportunities for tackling these types of domain name abuse. Time will be reserved for Q&A. Bio: Dr. Paul Vixie is the CEO and Co-founder of Farsight Security. He previously served as President, Chairman and Founder of Internet Systems Consortium (ISC), as President of MAPS, PAIX and MIBH, as CTO of Abovenet/MFN, and on the boards of several for-profit and non-profit companies. He served on the ARIN Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2013, as ARIN Chairman in 2008 and 2009, and was a founding member of ICANN Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC) and ICANN Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC). He operated the ISC's F-Root name server for many years, and is a member of Cogent's C-Root team. He is a sysadmin for Op-Sec-Trust. Dr. Vixie has been contributing to Internet protocols and UNIX systems as a protocol designer and software architect since 1980. He wrote Cron (for BSD and Linux), and is considered the primary author and technical architect of BIND 4.9 and BIND 8, and he hired many of the people who wrote BIND 9. He has authored or co-authored a dozen or so RFCs, mostly on DNS and related topics, and of Sendmail: Theory and Practice (Digital Press, 1994). His technical contributions include DNS Response Rate Limiting (RRL), DNS Response Policy Zones (RPZ), and Network Telemetry Capture (NCAP). He earned his Ph.D. from Keio University for work related to DNS and DNSSEC, and was named to the Internet Hall of Fame in 2014.
