FILM DESCRIPTION: Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel about a young woman who stumbles into the hectic worlds of high fashion and publishing comes to the big screen in this comedy. Andrea "Andy" Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is a bright young woman from the Midwest who has just graduated from college and wants to work as a magazine writer. Andy has applied for a job at "Runway," America's most prestigious fashion journal; though Andy has little to no interest in the garment trade, they are one of the only magazines in New York with a job opening -- second assistant to editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). As Andy quickly learns, Miranda is a diva with plenty of power within the magazine business and she isn't afraid to use it, and though Andy lands the job (primarily by being in the right place at the right time), she soon learns that working for Miranda could test the patience of a saint thanks to her endless demands and refusal to acknowledge the end of a work day. Andy struggles to hold on to the job and her sanity, knowing that a recommendation from Miranda can open nearly any door at any magazine, but can she handle the pressure without losing her mind along the way? The Devil Wears Prada also stars Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt, and Adrian Grenier. Nepthu (2 months ago)
Although I enjoy the movie, in retrospect this scene is laughable. The director highlighted all the important stuff that needs to be done before Miranda's arrival: changing your shoes, throwing away trash that is clearly still visible, moving folders, and my personal favorite--pouring a glass of water. Wow, what important stuff!
Rix Morales (2 months ago)
The way she flips her glasses speaks a lot of subtlety. She could convey varied sorts of character by just doing simple hand gestures

I just love her shoes! Does anyone know the name of them? The ones Meryl Streep is wearing.
Michael Lovely (21 days ago)
I don't know; but according to estimates from costume designer Patricia Fields, forty percent of the shoes Meryl Streep wore in the film are Prada.

Just saw this movie for the first time today. What I like about this movie it has a couple clarifications in the plot. 1: She is the chief editor of Runway, not the CEO or nor is she Chairman of the Board. 2: The only people she can treat like this is her assistants 3: She has the same relationship with her husband with roles reversed. (She is seen being submissive) 4: She has the same relationship with her children with roles reversed. (Catering to their irrational demands) 5: She has to respect and limit her sassy attitude when it comes to Nigel, James Holt, and anyone else is not directly under her. 6: "Millions of girls would love to be in your shoes". Andrea is a perfect example of someone who actually didn't need the job. Millions of girls would simply be as Miranda puts it 'girls who have little education, but are pretty and would love a convenient way to get free access to designer clothes and trips to Paris, 7: Meryl Streep does an incredible acting job of hiding these obvious realities. She is so consistently asserting herself and overwhelming people with tasks sometimes making them up to keep their minds overwhelmed that no one has time to actually realize that she is not actually at the top of the food chain. 8: On the other hand she uses her cunning to secure her position which she feigns as absolute power through her established relationships, connections, and hail mary timing. 9: Christian Thompson demonstrates just how vulnerable Miranda really is and not through her inherited position at Runway, but her ability to engage in the art of war. 10: Many people owe their success to her since she's so radiant of passion for her job she pushes everyone to the brinks of their limits and further than they're equipped to deal with anything regardless of where they go in life. That's not uncommon, but this film just goes to show that someone pushing beyond your reasonable limits is not always a bad thing and has its rewards.

At the beginning of this scene when she arrived and I saw people panicking, I was like how scary is she? When I heard her talking to her assistant, I was like wtf? This scene reminds me of the tv show "What Would You Do"
