13 ratings | 4720 views
This insulated down jacket from Mammut is a serious winter contender. Warm, light and durable... it also packs down tiny. http://www.gearpest.com/mammut-broad-peak-in-hooded-jacket-men/

Hi Fonzie, you must live somewhere pretty cold to be wandering around with this thing on every day :) It is probably more durable than most other lightweight technical down jackets on the market. While it is definitely is built to last, it won't be as tough as a soft-shell or gore-tex style jacket for example. I wouldn't worry too much about it but I would keep an eye on the condition of the stitching where the backpack straps come into contact. Also... prolonged use may compress the feathers on the shoulders and back and sweat from your back might effect it's ability to loft properly. It's important to hang it up somewhere warm and dry. An occasional gentle tumble-dry is a good idea. Down jackets last a long time if you look after them. Hope that helps :)

I´ve a further question, I´m a little bit worried about the durability of the jacket...most of the time I carry my backpack with approx. 5kg+ ( average, but weight it just a guess ) Do you have any concerns for daily use or is it built to last...?

Hi, I´m approximately 1,72m /72kg and I bought it about three weeks ago in a size M and it fits perfekt. I wore it only once at -5 to -10 Degrees ( strong wind ) with a single shirt and a Mammut Fleece underneath and it kept me warm, Mammut gloves failed ( even with it´s windstopper ) at this temperature but the Jacket kept me cosy and warm, really love it!

Hi, sorry for the slow response. I'm the guy in the video. I'm 175cm tall and about 77kg. I'm wearing a size M here but it's just a little tight around the middle and if I was buying I'd get a size L.

I'm 5'10" 180 lbs. My chest size plus wanting to be able to layer pushes me into an XL in Mammut.

I only started looking at the Mammut clothing a couple of years ago. Since then, I picked up the Rime Pro, which I believe is the sythetic insulated version of the Broad Peak, and the Ambler Pro. I liked the look of the Broad Peak better than the Rime Pro, but was concerned about how warm it would be in the wet weather that we get in cool, but not cold temperatures. I would love to hear your thoughts on the Broad Peak in wet weather. The Ambler Pro only comes out when it is cold enough to frreze all the moisture out of the air (less than -10F/-23C), so I didn't have the same concerns with it.

Hi, Sorry for the late response - yes EU is just short for Europe or the correct term is European Union...so it´s the same. :-)

By Switzerland not being Europe I assume you mean EU.

That hurts! I ordered some touring skins from Austria to my home in the US. No customs, no tax and no shipping costs. I had to pay the exchange rate, but that is it. The MSRP on the Broad Peak is $275 US, but not too many people pay list price.

I live in Germany (Europe) ...Mammut is located in Switzerland ( which is actually not Europe - but only 8 hours car drive away from my hometown...) if I´d going to purchase something in the US it might be even more expensive... I bought online some stuff in NY... $160 ....ended up to $345 to my door due to customs and tax...any further questions? ;-)
