In the book Anton acknowledges that he's not above everything. I think its very likely he died or was permanently disabled. He could call his boss and get a black market doctor but he's FUCKED UP after that crash lol

other driver still unconcious in the other car. But the kids rather fight for the dollar. Lmao.

+Reinhard T. E. Heydrich In novel there were young mexicans high on pot in the other car. Guy on the back seat survived, both guys on front seats died.
Yeah, thats what i'm asking myself too ...

Everyone always sais that that he lost his power, that the car crash proves he’s just a man.... I see the ending much differently, but i think the car crash wasn’t meant to remind us that he was just a man...I think that car crash acted more as a reminder for him, because as people are saying, maybe he started questioning himself, maybe he started to lose sight of the purpose he gave himself. But in the end, that car crash reminded him, that the world is inherently chaotic, it all works on chance....and he needs to continue being an agent for it, hence why when he gives the money to those kids, he tells them he didn’t see him...because that’s what he is, a ghost, a ghost of chaos and disorder, because that’s all there is in the world.
Jack (2 months ago)
Anton insisting that the kid take the money seems like he's reinforcing the fact that an innocent good-hearted kid has now taken part in helping pure evil.

Adult Moss picked 2 million dollars at the shootout scene with dead men. Kids picked some money from the car crash wounded victim. Maybe that's means that new generation will continue that what old generation has done.

could make a few subplots or even entire other movie from this: 1 "you don't give me half, i tell the cops he went that way!" 2 how could they split up or spend a bloodied hundred dollar bill? kids or adults doing that in a circa 1980 small town would raise questions. this was texas, not miami 3 (days later) ""your mother found this while doing laundry; where did it come from boy?"
kiveress (3 months ago)
In book they found Chigurh's gun in the car, then sold it, then some crime was commited with that gun in another state. So that crash still has other consequence.

Moral of the scene. No matter who you are, you can get fucked up by stupid drivers.
Very good (11 months ago)
What happened in this scene is Anton's determinism failing him. The situation obeyed his rules but didn't turn out the way it "should have", leaving him shocked("let me just sit here for a minute"). This is of course in line with the earlier refusal of Carla to play by his rules and the first scene where Anton gets upset by the man in the store that doesn't believe "everything is exactly as it is, unless you don't want it to be"(which is again in line with Anton letting the fat woman at the trailer park live for she does in fact obey his rules by never hesitating to not give him any information). Because his rules failed him he ended up breaking them and letting the children live("if you see me you're dead", but regardless of the kids clearly seeing him he's willing to pretend they didn't). Which is a result of his "what is the point of using rules that don't work out". The older men see chaos in where others see order and logic causing them to be "unfit to live in the country". Anton is the manifestation of those that see order in where the older see chaos.

I noticed that the crash isn’t Anton’s fault; he enters the intersection on a green light which indicates he has the right of way. The movie doesn’t show the driver of the car that crashed into him.
MrCapa (4 months ago)
Just goes to show that even if you play by the rules, fate won’t.

Probably got knocked out or died on impact from the head-on collision. Anton got hit sideways and walked away, but with bone sticking out of his arm.

Funny, the protagonists wife refused to call the coin toss, making chigurgh thinking about his action for the first time in this movie. That distraction caused the accident.

It just means that even tho the film considers him as some sort of reaper.. He still just a human who can be unlucky
Insignatious (1 year ago)
It means a great deal. Anton Chigurh sees the universe as random and beyond human control. The choices we make, knowingly or otherwise, will lead to our futures. Every action leads to another action, and so forth, until we arrive at our final destination. We don't control our lives at all; we just guess blindly. That's why he does the coin flip. He is showing his victims that their fates are entirely out of their hands. They will live or die based on a meaningless choice. The car crash scene shows that Anton Chigurh is not immune to the randomness of the universe. Just as chance lead all his victims to their fates, chance caused that car to hit Chigurh. The scene shows that although Chigurh understands the meaningless chaos of reality, he isn't immune to it.
Ping LIM (1 year ago)
I wonder if those two boys ever stayed friends after that?

If you look at the sillouette from the car's window, you can see a person laying immobile. Most likely unconscious, but possibly dead.
Raf Ben we never saw him/her..
Gonkosan Roberto (1 year ago)
People dont understand this scene. When he talks to Wells he says: "If the rule you followed brought to this moment, what is that rule worth?" right before shooting him. Anton's rule brought him to this. To particular moment in time. He wasn't just struck by a car. His own rule was delegitimized by the "universe", so to speak. He lost his "rule". He came the same way the coin did - he is an chaotic agent of chance, and he was struck and almost killed by the same concept he embodies.
Mitchell Ashby (6 months ago)
The correct quote is, “if the rule you followed, brought you to this, of what use was the rule?”
Larry (8 months ago)
Actually his rule was legitimized by the universe. Anton could have noticed the car speeding past the red light but he was too focused on the kids in his rear view. He forgot his own rule. Just because you have a green light, doesnt mean someone isnt running a red. Anton always "won" because he understood this rule and played it to his advantage. The car accident was a moment in time where he was playing the same role of the people he manipulated once before. Just going through life, hoping that everything goes to plan just because it always has before...
sp1d3rm0nk3y33 (1 year ago)
And yet he still lives...Or to be more accurate The Evil in person. So this is not about if the Agent of Chaos is vulnerable like the other people or not, but the Evil even if it's not unbeatable it's far from being eradicated.

IMO, what this scene is supposed to tell is that even the most ultimate, inevitable Evil... Still can't escape simple rules of reality. And its absolute randomness. "You're only an untouchable badass character... as long as reality feels like letting you be"
Leo Flaherty (4 months ago)
+Si Hopebgood The point of the ending is not to give you satisfaction. It's to leave you troubled. Your mind, turbulent. Asking questions. Like "does every wicked deed get its comeuppance?". And "what do I do with the answer to that question?"
Si Hopebgood (6 months ago)
If the book has an equally unsatisfactory ending, then yes.

Jason Eaton (1 year ago)
Carla Jean distracted him by confronting his guilt, "itls not the coin, it's just you", so he feels guilty and paranoid, and he checks out the teens that just turned into the street, behind him, then he has the accident. She messed with his mind, and so, he attracted an accident into his life. She fucked him over, cause she younger, and fresher.
Jason Eaton (1 year ago)

Actually that was the only one time in book when sheriff met someone who saw Chigurh and stayed alive. So he wasn't ghost or hand of death or anything like that. But he disappear later. Sheriff would like to think that he is a ghost, but he is not.

I don't know if there's a connection or not, but this scene seems very foreshadowed to me. The sherif already told Carla jean of that man who shot himself with the shotgun and couldn't lift his arm above his head. He was helpless and the cattle knew that. I'll be dammed if Chigaur ever uses his arm for anything ever again especially with bone sticking out like that.

This scene is somehow stupid and irregular to the rest of the movie 1) He didnt kill the boys, but they clearly saw him near the murder scene 2) He gave money to boys and that is stupidest move he could do, cause it raises suspicion on his person. He could just walk away, boys wouldnt stop him. Could the money prevent the boys from giving him out if they would be questioned by police ? No. Could it raise suspicion? Hell, yeah.
