I have a hard time believing youd set someone you arrested behind you like that, even if youre a small town cop. Any suggestion that small town cops dont deal with people you cant turn your back on is ridiculous, especially in new mexico or texas or wherever they are. Theres just no reason for it. Have him killed realistically. The rest of the movie seems pretty committed to details.

How did he get his handcuffs to the front ?
Slimme Oen (1 month ago)
He made himself small and then pulled his arms under his legs its very difficult to do
Minoan Light (4 months ago)
Somewhat realistic scene. No one dies from strangling in few seconds, like in most of other movies.

Idk if i was the guy at the end with i would Anton get away from me especially when he starts to put something close to my head.

This was around the time when "Oscar-grab" movies started putting "shock factor" into their movies. Now it's just the norm.

I was hoping that some unsuspecting person would blow Antons brains out. Maybe an old woman. lol 😂

River Zakariasen (9 months ago)
In all reality it would be totally possible to torque your hips and turn your body to face his. It’s a chain not a chicken wire.
Austin McMahon (9 months ago)
Now if the cop actually had a sidearm on his hip like most other cops he could have pulled out the 6 shooter, unloaded, and not died. And saved the janitor the time of buffing out those shoe scuff marks.

sigh I wish Anton would strangle *me* like that.

I've always wanted to do this to an enemy of mine. Seems like it'd be so much fun!
wiifan222 (1 year ago)
Death of the random guy could have been choreographed a bit better. He stands up too long after the blast from the oxygen. Body should've dropped immediately instead of standing for a second or two longer. Would've added to the realism. Other than that, amazing sequence.
PDC1987 (1 year ago)
The actor playing the cop really should’ve lost both of his boots in the struggle. Especially the way he was kicking and trying to dig his heels in. Also would have added to the film’s realism, as we would see a typical rural Sheriff breaking usual police dress code and wearing white over the calf tube socks.
Bobbynik (1 year ago)
He has a gun

If you're not watching this scene with a subwoofer and loud volume, you're not experiencing it entirely. It's fucking terrifying!

so going off of the title, and looking at a few clips, does this guy just go around killing people he thinks have lived long enough XD
Z3us (1 year ago)
First time I watched this and I saw Anton casually freeing himself in the background I was like, "Umm officer. He's free. He's free! HE'S FREE!!!! OH SHIT!!!"
Matt Payne (1 year ago)
Author Cormac McCarthy was on the set when this scene was filmed. The deputy scuffing the floor with his boots was not in the novel. After the scene was finished, McCarthy told the Coen brothers "I wish I had thought of that!"
Phillip Pirowkowski (5 months ago)
Jordan Schlansky I don't think he meant the strangling of the officer wasn't in the book. Just the scuffling of his boots to the floor "while" being strangled I believe is what he meant by wasn't in book. And from your post it kinda sounds like you confirmed what he was saying. Because you said the officer was moving in a circular type motion while being strangled. I wasn't aware of what he was saying at first myself. But your post helped me figure out that is what they meant. Probably because I think the title to this clip makes reference to the officers boots scuffling. I think THIS scene is critical to show what kind of person this dude is. The face he's making while strangling this cop is horrific. Pretty ballsy thing to do while in police custody too I may add.
I just read that part in the novel and I can confirm that it was. It was just far more impressive. The deputy was moving in a circle while being strangling.
FuLLeFFekT1 (1 year ago)
Why was Anton arrested in the first place? And why was the air hose fed thru the sleeve of his jacket WHILE DRIVING??? That would make it incredibly awkward to drive... and its not like he can easily hide that big air tank under his jacket. Doesn't make any sense, he carried it very openly through-out the remainder of the movie.
Paul Lindley (1 year ago)
Imagine chigurh and Billy bob Thornton's character together, they'd make one seriously fucked up dangerous team
Caesar Vespasian (1 year ago)
Why would you turn your back on a suspect? Why would the old man obey someone clearly not a law enforcement officer? Why would you take water back for someone who'd be long dead by then? (And that's just the beginning)
Chives5150 (1 year ago)

He's a demented killer .. he doesn't need a reason !!
1337ToxicSlayer (2 years ago)
Actually, if you paid any attention at all when watching the movie, his face is like that because he was still wearing the cuffs while strangling him, and afterwards he had to clean the blood from his wrists. The cuffs were cutting him. Pay attention please thanks
Paul Lindley (1 year ago)
Course he was getting pleasure he even twists his wrist to burst his jugular
William James (2 years ago)
[L]ou nah son. He gets injured multiple times in the movie and doesn't react to it in any form. So you telling me the cuffs on his wrist hurt more than being shot? or walking from a car wreck? No lol he was getting pleasure from that strangling.
James K Peabody (2 years ago)

CGDF Gaming (2 years ago)
What device did he use to put a hole in that guy's head and why did he kill him for? He didn't do anything.
Michael Naylor (2 years ago)
in the book, he says he allowed himself to be picked up by the deputy to see if he could will himself to freedom
Ryan Mair (2 years ago)
He killed him because he needed the guys car. You cant be driving around in a cop car after you murdered the cop driving it.
FishTank Productions (2 years ago)
It was a captive bolt pistol.
Darkturtle (2 years ago)
He didn't necessarily have to strangle him to death. Probably could've easily picked those cuffs and vanished. Most likely though, he let himself get taken in to snag some wheels & a gun.

Fuck that i would of a killed him for fun. 😊

That cut to the sink at 1:42 is pure Coen. From strangling someone with bare hands, to washing the blood off of them in the next scene...
Candor (2 years ago)
Tehaha hehe. 2:53 He just lets him place it to his head. What did you think it was going to do? Stamp a UPC code on you.
Lioness Es (2 years ago)
You summon me to pull over, you get out of a police car, but you're not wearing a uniform and you're carrying a damn cattle gun. You don't introduce yourself, but tell me (not ask me) to get out of my car...I don't think so! He would've had to run me off the road. I would've left his ass standing in a cloud of dust!
John Smith (1 year ago)
looks like the guy being pulled over lives in a pretty nice and smooth running county where he would never suspect a man stole a police car and would attempt to murder him. And the fact that its back in the 80's. They didnt really have globalized news or internet to read about all the terrorism/murder/corruption/crime that we see now. Most people in a small american town back then wouldn't be suspect of a situation like this.
Lioness Es (2 years ago)
Omg Anton scares the bejeezus out of me! The look on his face after choking the sh!t out of that deputy and smiling before killing that victim. And I think he gets sexual gratification out of it. The mind of a psychopath....
SoldiersGonePsycho (2 years ago)
Why wouldn't he put him in a cell when he brought him in?
Candor (2 years ago)
1:37 it's almost as if he orgasms. LMAO. It's really fun if you cheer him on during the scene. Kill heeeiiim!!! Keeeiiiiil. Yaaaaaaaaaa. I don't know, I'm pretty fucking sick....by this point in my life. I wasn't always, I promise.

Something people forget about this movie is through underlying message -- these people are small-town folk, used to a very regular, low-key life that's put their guard down to people like him. They wouldn't imagine people would want to do such a heinous act. The old generation is receiving a mean wake-up call from Chugar in what the world is now like.
Forza Napoli (10 months ago)
Chugar baby
hall9111 (1 year ago)
No. That's the exact opposite message of the film. The film insists that evil men like Chugar have always existed. "What you got ain't nothing new." And the cops who say that the world is becoming more cruel are blinded by nostalgia. "It ain't waiting on you. That's vanity."
Lioness Es (2 years ago)
Hence it goes back to the title of No Country for old Men. It's like the rest of the world is rapidly evolving into a sci-if like reality with killing for drugs, money etc. and in a small town nothing ever really changes for a long time. I totally agree with you.
realmasterchief (2 years ago)
*the underlying message.
HeRetic Nate (2 years ago)
I like how there is no ambient noise so all you hear is the struggling
Candor (2 years ago)
Yaaaaaaaaa. I love it. You can almost feel the life slipping from his lungs.

@Anthony De Los Santos Lmao. Anton Chigurh, the psychopath who is afraid of blood. That's a good one. Seems legit.

Mr Bubbles773 (2 years ago)
It's not uncommon for smaller towns just have a sherif and one or two deputies. Especially during the the 80's.
Luke Dearey (2 years ago)
stupid idiot. He should've noticed something suspicious as soon as he found out the "officer" was not in uniform. Is he so stupid he can't even tell the difference between a cop and a civilian/psychopathic hitman?
Luke Dearey (2 years ago)
+TheHackerGamer Bani hani calm down. I don't think people would suddenly sense a killer in their presence. I'm just saying that guy should've at least suspected something when the guy wasn't even in uniform. And how's traffic-control an undercover cop's concern?
FortniteSard (2 years ago)
nope I'm not, you're either very stupid to think that some random guy would know that a killer was in a police car.
Luke Dearey (2 years ago)
+TheHackerGamer Bani hani you're only saying that because you're confused and too arrogant to admit you're wrong.
FortniteSard (2 years ago)
You think a civilian know's that the guy is a killer? you know how rare a thing like that is to happen? its like seeing a storm outside and not going out cause you think you'll be hit by a lightning, its so fucking rare
Luke Dearey (2 years ago)
+TheHackerGamer Bani hani I'm pretty sure my arguments are legit compared to yours.

That policeman is pretty dumb, sitting with his back towards the criminal
profd65 (5 months ago)
@ill al Oh, after a cop has arrested you he just stares at you nonstop? Is that what happens? Cops are crime fighting robots that run according to a foolproof algorithm--is that what you're telling us? Cops have never made mistake in world history, let alone been killed--right? Because they're super smart like you all the time. Stupid fuck, you know nothing about real life; but the sad thing is you THINK you do, because you've watched every episode of Breaking Bad. Idiots like you are always up in these comment sections trying to prove how smart you are, and failing utterly. Real life doesn't work according to your "logic," dummy.
Garrett Griggs (1 year ago)
Exactly, he Didnt know so he should have taken precaution. Thats a normal protocol of officer safety today. Never turn your back on a suspect. Especially one thats been arrested for murder (which he Had. Its in the novel)
ill al (1 year ago)
profd65, Either fucking way, why would you leave your eyes off of someone you just arrested, shit for brains? That is just straight up cartoon logic, stupid and mind-boggling on how that could even happen in reality.
alex may (2 years ago)
reality bites
profd65 (2 years ago)
The cop didn't know the guy he brought in was a psychopathic murderer, shit for brains, or that the guy might attempt to choke him with handcuffs.
Bryan L (2 years ago)
I'v always loved the cut at 1:42. Anton just murdered someone and the next scene we see abruptly cuts to him washing his hands in the bathroom.

Half the questions here can be summed up as, "Why are county folks so fuckin dumb?"
Alex Harwell (2 years ago)
Why would the guy getting pulled over NOT drive the fuck off as soon as he saw that the guy wasn't a cop, was carrying an ominous looking oxygen tank, and didn't even greet him and just went, "get out of the car?" I would have been gone as hell as soon as I saw a guy not in an officer's uniform stepping out of a police car.
Luxury Brown (11 months ago)

Matthew Warren (1 year ago)
It’s called obedience to authority figures. (The milgram experiment is the most famous study about this, if you want to google it) According to the book the guy realizes that something is off but not until it’s too late
tuanomsoc (1 year ago)
When has an oxygen tank ever been ominous dude :-)
ill al (1 year ago)
profd65, I do. And you care enough to even comment on this.
Eren Anidem (2 years ago)
i need you to step out of the car sir :D
truboricua (2 years ago)
This is why police take precautions, folks. People always criticize police for what they consider "unnecessary" actions like cuffing people to poles, making them lie down cuffed or other things they get ridiculed for doing. Cops don't know who they're dealing with and some goof they pulled over could be some psycho killer or trained fighter. It's not just for "fun" or show, stuff like this happens in real life and plenty of cops have been killed or hurt by guys who take advantage of nonchalant cops like this poor bastard.

This is the problem with choking someone out with a length of fine link chain, or a piece of wire. You can't use your full upper body strength without severing an artery. Make a mess of what would otherwise be a fairly clean kill.

Narthumpulous (3 years ago)
If you pay close attention, you'll notice that as he's strangling him, he's making it a point to move in stride with the struggling of the cop, so he can't gain any leverage. It's apparent that it was not his first time killing someone with his bare hands. Especially when he releases his breath at the end, it's like he's just surrendering himself to the experience and going through the motions... Pretty twisted shit. Probably the most realistically depicted strangulation scenes in movie history.
Howlin Wolf (6 months ago)
