What she says is NOT true about plus size wearing what she wears. I try on clothes slim models wear all the time in the store and look aweful. Having a plus size model on to show her would be good.
majestic gremlin (2 months ago)
i realize this comment is hella late to the party, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ one thing a lot of non plus size people don't realize is very few brands make clothes FOR plus size people. sure, brands HAVE a size 18, 20, 22, etc. but it's like they literally put the garment in photoshop and scaled it up everywhere. the arms are longer, the length is longer, designers assume we have huge football player shoulders. so while, yes, i CAN find these garments and they can sorta look good on me, many parts of the garment aren't proportional to an actual human. just because i'm fat doesn't mean i'm also 7 feet tall with a 4 foot shoulders. i can get these items tailored to look better, but that's if i have the money for the garment and the tailoring, and considering it's not really worth it to tailor anything from forever 21, h&m, etc. i already have to pay for a higher quality garment and pay for tailoring, while non plus size people can just go to h&m and buy something off the rack for $10. the item may still not fit them perfectly, but they have a better chance at it than i do. another part of being plus size is HOW you're plus size and how different garments and styles flatter different parts of your body. and while non plus size people do have problem areas they would like to hide or deemphasize, it's not to the same extent as plus size people. i, for example, can't tuck anything into my pants because i, unfortunately, carry most of my weight in my stomach. tucking in a shirt would just draw attention to that part of me. for others who carry their weight in their hips and have a flatter/less pronounced stomach, this could be very flattering on them. i also can't wear something fitted on the bottom and flowy on the top, as it would just emphasize how small my hips are in comparison to my waist. when you're not plus size, a flowy top can help hide the food baby or bloating you have, or help to disguise the 5 lbs you gained after the holidays, but when you're plus size, a flowy top can actually make you look bigger. all in all, i thought the video was good and quite a few of the outfit/garment choices are universally flattering. i just thought this might be a little extra info from the pov of a plus size person (not that you haven't already gotten a ton of that by now) about being plus size. great vid, and have a good day 8)

You need a plus size person to talk not a skinnny person she dose not understanding what plus size people go through

Anita B. (8 months ago)
A lot of stylish clothes are not even made in plus size. Seriously, I guess a skinny person would not know that.
Charlie Ramos (8 months ago)
I love that you did this video, however I do have to say that I am plus size and there are some things I disagree with. Fact is there are many things I physically cannot wear that you can wear. I cannot fit into most things that my sister, who is skinny, wears even if I get my correct size it doesn't fit right. Because my body I different, and nothing wrong with that. I find clothes that shows off what I have and flatters me. What I, as a plus size girl, look good in might not look good on someone like my sister, who is skinny. That goes both ways, honestly that's everyone. Two thinner women cant always wear the same thing because their bodies are still different in ways and certain things might flatter one and not the other. Truth is everyone usually finds clothed for their body. Thank you for the love ❤
Patricia Bond (10 months ago)
I've worked in fashion my whole life & it's lovely to hear someone as slim as you say there's no difference in what different sized people want to wear ☺ now if we could just get the designers to think this way we could be onto a winner lol BTW I'm a plus size x
Summer Orta (10 months ago)
Skinny friends: "Get what we wear in YOUR size, you'll look great!" Me: "The biggest size they have is a 14" Them: "Oh, ok, well would you mind watching our bags while we try some stuff on?"

I am plus size, a size larger on top than in pants. I cannot wear a top tucked in or a jacket that stops at my waist. The fat rolls are showing and ugly looking. I cannot wear what you wear.
Kathy Radford Right I understand plus size has different body shapes that don't suit every look I would wear. I was speaking generally that just because someone isn't as slender doesn't mean they can't wear similar styles to me. It depends on shape. I do know plus size people who have a very hourglass figure that does suit styles that slender people wear. It was meant to be encouraging and I hope if anything it made you feel excited to try new things out because sometimes unexpected things work. Thank you for watching I appreciate your comment! xo

i think it takes living in plus size body to know that outfits skinny people can wear aren't universal. I like that you chose to do this video though, nice take.
Serena Smith (2 months ago)
Kayla Whaley I’ve been as small as a size 5 and as big as a size 22. All of these universal rules she’s given apply to all sizes.

This video is helpful. Most people don't know that clothing can vary, from store to store, and brand to brand. You may be a size 4 in Lee jeans at target, but be a size 6 or 8 at Wal-Mart .same pants.

iamaarti (1 year ago)
If you were plus-sized you'd know that this is not true. I, for example, CANNOT wear high-waisted pants and a tucked in top because my chest is so large that it envelops my waist. It's not that simple and honestly it's offensive that you think it is.
Megan the Onion Knight (7 months ago)
iamaarti im plus sized apple shape. For me high wasted actually works. There is a lot more to fashion than just fat and thin, shapes will change EVERYTHING. But this video didnt help me at all.
Lisa Rice (9 months ago)
**wear them
Lisa Rice (9 months ago)
For those of us who understand where you are coming from - ismaarti - it really depends on your height also. There are SO many other factors that come into play, and not just the fashion sense but the actual physical ability to where them. So many of us are disabled, and have to deal with being able to put them on also. Clothes DO fit a larger person differently, and you must pay the price for being ‘cut to fit your size’ in addition to wanting to look good. It is not as ‘easy’ as the video clip person assumes - or as financially able some sizes are versus smaller ones.
Trashley Fellers (11 months ago)
Yeah, this is a problem created by your massive rack, not simply being plus sized. I'm plus & have a DD, high waist is NOT a problem. Also if this video offends you, get a fucking life and grow a spine. Whiner
Jennifer Whalen (1 year ago)
This is not because you are plus size, it is because your chest is so very large. I am plus size and My breast are average size I am a DD. I know women who are G and H and even bigger. Now they can not tuck in their shirt. But my cousin is small and she can't wear high waisted pants and tuck in her shirt because her breast are so Large that she can't even find a bra to fit properly. She has seen a doctor for a breast reduction. There will always be the exceptions. She does make some really good points though.
jemma webb (1 year ago)
You don't know what you are talking about.
jemma webb I don't know from personal experience dressing for plus size. But I have a Pinterest board linked in the info box showing plus size bloggers who wear what I wear. I hope you don't feel discouraged but encouraged. xo
Donna Johnson (1 year ago)
Ooh, you very nearly said 'fat'
whitedahlia10 (1 year ago)
Wow! This is FANTASTIC advice!! Thanx!
Szimola (1 year ago)
I think what the commenters meant were examples of not emphasizing your problem areas. For example i cant tuck a blouse in my pants. My pants are there to flatten my stomach and if i tuck in a blouse it doesnt look good (jogger pants example, or if a pant is loose enough hello thigh chafing). So a lot of styling based on tucking in tops is out for me. Skirts and dresses i manage with shapewear but it's a lot of effort. For this reason i also feel like skinny people look effortless in everything.

What's plus size? Is that like XL in the UK?
Sal Atherton (2 years ago)
Ah, okay, thank you.
In the US it's about a size 16 or up. Which would be about a size 20 in the UK I think. xo
Christa ray 29 (2 years ago)
She almost said "skinny vs fat" which is actually the correct comparison. You shouldn't have to feel like you have to walk on egg shells talking about overweight people. It is straight size vs plus size and skinny vs fat
You are correct. Valid points. Unfortunately "fat" is used as such an insult for some people their whole lives, I tried to use a different word. I want a woman to walk away feeling more beautiful, rather than me using a grammatically correct word. Thank you so much for watching I appreciate your input and I agree to not be overly concerned, people will get hurt sometimes either way. xo
the problem is finding it at an affordable price. even forever 21 doesn't have some plus sizes (I have never seen their plus size jeans over an 18)
I always see pretty plus size clothes at thrift stores, of course it's hit and miss. But you might try! Best wishes to you, and know that shopping is difficult for everyone haha! xo
Naomi (2 years ago)
You came up in my suggested videos and I clicked on this video not expecting much. But as a plus size woman I really loved this video. I love the way you explain yourself and that you didn't use any subtly disrespectful language when talking about plus size girls. I have subscribed ! X
Thank you Naomi, I'm honestly not sure what would be considered disrespectful so I would love it if you could educate me so I can not say those things in the future out of ignorance. I just spoke from my heart, I honestly see all women as just women...size doesn't determine much when it comes to personal style in my opinion. I love the examples I show in the pinterest board I linked in the info box, what amazing women of style. I'm so happy to have you here xo
KaleidoscopeEffect (2 years ago)
I know some principles aply to everyone but not all clothings that look good on skinny people look good in people that are plus-sized or just really curvy. For example if you have broad shoulder spaguetti straps are not recommended... Thicker straps will help balancing your body shape. And super loose blouses with nothing to accentuate the waist with a low cut pants or skirt look pretty bad on a plus-size when skinny people can get away with it... And that's ok, people don't need to use the same style for everything no matter their shape. There are things that are more flattering for skinny people and there are also things that are more flattering for plus-sizes.
Lisa Rice (9 months ago)

Maybe instead of just photoshopping your thumbnail you have an actual plus size person try on the same outfit to see if the same principles apply.
kamales pari (2 months ago)
yes, i agree with u, u should use a plus size model in future
Jennifer Whalen (1 year ago)
She is telling the truth. I am plus size and I just recently started a job in retail and a huge part of my job is fashion. I do work in a plus size store, but everyone no matter their size wants their outfit to flatter their shape. She doesn't need a plus size women to try on the same outfit. depending on the colors it may look different.

Hi Angie, I don't have people at my disposal to use for visuals. Hence why I linked a pinterest board full of images of plus size women wearing similar outfits to what's in the thumbnail. The same principles apply and I hope you can see that with how I provided help. xo

Fred Schartz (2 years ago)
It is not so much what you can or cannot wear as a plus size woman, but what is available to us. Unfortunately the fashion industry does not agree with the fact that plus size women want to dress like their petite and average sized sisters, and do not produce the mass diversity of clothes for us. Companies do not want to produce a huge assortment of clothes that women will not buy because of preconceived ideas of what we can and should wear.. Thank you for your support.
Summer Orta (10 months ago)
Our mall has a Lane Bryant and a Torrid. That's it...we get two stores...and if their line doesn't cater to your style, too bad. The rest of the mall is for "skinny" people and we don't deserve to shop in their stores. I actually had a Victoria's Secret employee stop me at the door to tell me that they didn't have anything for "People like me", then told me that Torrid was on the top floor! I was there for perfume, but after that, was too embarrassed to go in and I just wanted to go home.
Jennifer Whalen (1 year ago)
What you say is true. But I have noticed that more companies are coming out with plus size clothes it is taking time. There are shops like Lane Bryant and Torrid also Roz and Alli. I believe it will take other companies some time.
LynnBlack0185 (1 year ago)
Fred Schartz Exactly. I went on ASOS and the misses dress offer more items than the whole plus sized section. Truly sad so it's not about thinking we can't fit it, it's more about not being able to find it.
How frustrating. I actually identify with that as a petite person nothing is made for small people! That's actually why I tend to shop Asian websites because Asians are tiny like me. I totally understand and hopefully more fashion forward clothing is available in more sizes. xo
Very good video, I agree when you say that some styles and silhouettes just ARE universally flattering, no matter what your body shape is. And others just don't help (anyone) :-)

Daniella Moreno (2 years ago)
A S T Y L E R E E L by Shannon Kylí what store or online company do you find a high quality like that!!?? Your camera really is good compared to other youtubers.
Simi Loves (2 years ago)
yes the quality and focus is incredible!! thank you so much Shannon i really appreciate your reply and also that it is a good vlogging camera :)
Oh glad it was helpful! FYI about cameras (if you don't know this) you do need to balance the color & lighting post production. This has been my experience with other cameras I have used as well (Canons, etc.) so in the editing software you increase the lighting and saturation just a bit to bring it up to realistic look since cameras tend to desaturate you. What I love about this camera is it's small so I can vlog with it, but when I'm sitting here, it autofocuses on me. I don't have to worry about it being blurry or out of focus if I am not in the perfect distance from it. I hated that about all of the other DSLRs that other youtubers use, if I sat an inch too far or too close from it it was blurry. This camera just focuses right on you and is incredibly HD. xo

Any fashion advice for taller girls (5'8) who have longer legs and shorter torso?
FoodieVeggieStudent (1 year ago)
I'm the same height and proportions. I wear a uniform of mini skirts from tall sections or midi skirts in a stretchy material with blouses and fitted jumpers tucked in with flat, round toed, dark coloured shoes. Its taken a while for me to get to this point because I always though my legs were too long for skirts but when I had to wear one for my graduation ceremony, I realised how much I loved it and now only own two pairs of trousers (one smart and one demin)!
If you feel your legs are too long (is that an issue?? lol), try to wear longer tops, it will make your torso look proportionally longer compared to the legs. Also, you can wear flats rather than heels. Same visual effect than wearing long tops.
Wear what you love! I don't believe in fashion rules. Look in the mirror and you will know if something flatters you. xo
Lera Summer (2 years ago)

Elīna Mihejeva (2 years ago)
fitted & loose, in my opinion, is one of the worst fashion "rules", fitted&fitted or loose&loose can look beautiful
I agree xo
dominique007 (2 years ago)
ElinaMih123 the problem is people think fitted means skin tight and loose means shapeless
P.S. I wasn't talking about fashion rules. I was outlining things that I personally do. It's not a rule, it was a summary of things I tend to do that I know all body sizes can also do. xo
I agree but I think it's the exception. Some bodies look good in fitted & fitted, but even then it doesn't always look tasteful. Loose & loose can make people look heavier/frumpier than they are but yes it can still look chic. If I were to give a general guideline about balancing a look, it would be fitted with loose. It does give BALANCE which is the point. It doesn't mean other combinations don't work at all. I should have made that disclaimer xo
