12. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities. If you want 12 steps, go see the relevant pages. There are plenty. Maybe less glamorous but more informative. Please mind, Mr. Brand

this fool does not demonstrate the difference between addiction and dependency. russell crow. Margaret Thatcher has done more good for the world than you have done or probably will do. I read "i always felt bad for her children" and your opinions stated about her are completly oblivious to what was going on in London (and all other areas you were writing for) She simply wanted to stop the goverment from controling every aspect of life. Sure when Britain was privatized people lost their jobs suffered worse than was. Im not saying theres no poverty but im going to say the goverment in britain has now won over the people. and Thatcher is to thanks. Its to have more than 2 classes of people in a society. Poor and Rich. Terrible sceme. Barrack Obama,Hillary Clinton, president a d so much more people tried to nationalize The united states industries.

You are completely correct Russell Brand. Addiction is in everyone. It stems from our innate biology to bond with the abiotic and biotic environment. We bond with chemicals in our envrionments for various reasons. You are WOKE RUSSELL BRAND!!!!!

I stopped dating. Texting fucks it all up, leaving no space to think develop and feel and always inevitably leading to some major misunderstanding far too early on, even if you're careful. I don't know when (if) I will again. I've stayed out for two years and it's been quite nice.
40 years of undiagnosed ADHD was the driving force behind my drug & alcohol addictions.

I see what the cycle is and fortunately we can program to walk the path even with a problem . I Believe in teachers and wisdom enough and see that consciousness isn’t finite . Like this yogi I think. Have a heading and faith and practice is about the same as a 8 hour bender so much levity and joy, quickie to fix the issue and be invisible or untold story. Fortunately Suffering is everything and tempo rhythm I fell, the trick or talent is to stay on key love the suck and fail expectedly and learn from that.so knowing)f a system like this perhaps is essential if you are saying I am doing stuff and things disconnected from source or self and unfulfilled from consumerism and capitalism maybe external world war on consciousness and self transformation is a little mental upkeep always on the to do list. Just saying some of my perspectives and thanks again Brand! Happy holidays mofo. Cheers

I have 8 months clean from heroin after 9 years of using and Russell makes me have hope for humanity and myself at times when I feel fucked, dont have drugs or a woman to run to. Cuz I've tried to make myself happy all my short 29 years from external things and am just now realizing that it didnt work and will never. Thankfully I left syracuse NY where I'm from and embedded myself in n.a. got a sponsor, helping the community and working the steps to hopefully at some point to be happy and fulfilled because of how I feel inside and not from material shit, drugs or women. But I love this dude man, such an inspiration in my eyes.

I think there are countless people who keep buying consumer goods because they have a hole in their soul that can never be filled. Instead they fill their houses with crap and when that fills up they rent a storage space (or two). American buying habits indicate that this is a major disorder in the American psyche.

What you need to become addicted to is healthy addictions. I'm addicted to eating healthy, I'm addicted to exercise, I'm addicted to learning new things, becoming wiser and more knowledgeable, I'm addicted to perfecting my art, I'm addicting to forging meaningful friendships (in person not this fake online crap) I'm addicted to helping others and making the world a better place.... Fill you life will healthy addictions and you will not have time for the self destructive ones.

Russel, how does one deal with pain that emanates from traumatic childhood experiences, such as being victim or witness to domestic violence? It seems to me that historical pain ( or pain rooted in one's choldhood) is hard to shift. Particularly, if those people involved are no longer alive to address these issues to.

3:09 *"...…...external coordinates"?* - OK, you know what you mean by that phrase, and I guess that some others, including "me", also understand what you mean by that phrase. As a well-known student of "human nature" put it:- "The psyche is the greatest of all cosmic wonders and the "sine qua non" of the world as an object. It is in the highest degree odd that Western man, with but very few and ever fewer exceptions, apparently pays so little regard to this fact. Swamped by *the knowledge of external objects,* the subject of all knowledge has been temporarily eclipsed to the point of seeming nonexistence." C.G.Jung 1946. As Jung might have admitted such terms are "pointers"; meaning, I suppose, some kind of intuition that won't truly resolve itself in words ? I suspect only those of a certain "disposition" will be able to follow the arguments in the book you keep referring to; viz most folk maybe not. The reason is the drastic reductive nature of language; being a "medium" like video, it's invariably trying to account for a "3-D" world by reducing it to 2; and in serial format also, when "reality" is going on around one constantly, recorded automatically in the individual exposed psyche as some kind of unconscious fragmentary associations ? [ After all, you made this video around 9 months ago and folk ( dafties ) like me, react as though it is in the present; and you, a unitemp, come in here hoping to land the role of Supreme Evangelist. Well, if no duotemp comes in here, say in the next 6 months, I'll be only too pleased to give you the job. Hell, you haven't even so much as left a single acknowledgement for all the comments folk leave under ( any of ? ) your video(s). So what do we conclude from that - narcissism ? ] As Shakespeare gave Macbeth to say: *"Life's but a walking shadow; a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage...…..and is heard no more. It is a tale ( account ), told by an idiot; full of sound and fury; signifying...……..nothing"* As Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's sister put it, *"....meditation is not a subject for discussion...….but an experiential feat(?)…." ?* Without the so-called "enlightening experience" as a ( natural ? ) "function" of the autonomic nervous system all such talk is "mere words" ? Anyway, why should one care too much; "......….we all end up the same" ( Telly Savalas singing as the credits roll out at the end of "Pancho Villa" ) Personally, I would consider all those addictions you mention, particularly drugs, drink, sex and smoking come under the heading of ERROR; mostly indulged in in copycat mode ? I have a theory that says; it is not the substance that one ingests that creates a memorable ( eminently repeatable ) experience ( how could it ? ) but the psyche, or autonomic nervous system, that tends to shut down as the system goes into varying degrees of shock and tries immediately to expel this poisonous junk ? Since it seems inevitable we accept that this is the case then it surely indicates the ability of the ( trained ? ) awareness to induce something akin, but greatly superior, to that experience, harmlessly, by itself ( seemingly ) ?

If a 12 step programme has worked for Russell, then I have to give it another try,my ego always got in the way before, always seeing the differences between myself and other members of 12 step..but I can't do it alone and I certainly don't have the answers or know how to get clean on my own.i just got your recovery book and if someone like you, whom I really respect can learn so much from meetings then I can too.

I’m still active, and I’ve convinced not only my therapy group, therapist, and family that I’m still clean. I don’t want to be this person anymore. I see the world with such a nihilistic lens wit bothers me emotionally, but why is this never enough to stop?! I want to stop I want to stop I want to stop. Am I still too fearful of consequence? Did I pick the wrong sponsor? (Who also I have manipulated into believing I’m sober) Logically the best thing for my family is to remove me; I’m toxic. Yet I’m emotionally drawn to not act on this. If I have money, I will drink it. Yet “the hunt” for indirect purchases has become the most alluring game. Can I take the first step with you? I’m fucked. 2- is it possible I may get be not fucked?....not even slightly 3-do I need help with confronting my being fucked up? YES! A resounding yes. 4-can I list the times I felt personally harmed, leading up to my being fucked up? NO. I don’t remember them all, but I know there are things I haven’t dealt with. ...and that’s as far as I can get. Fear seems to be a dominant factor, and I can’t even remember why.

Thank you so much for your work. I think sometimes people don't understand your zeal, passion and courage because they don't really understand these issues and they fluff them off, but you get the reality of it. Yes, it is a fight and daily struggle against things that can destroy your life, the life of those you love and innocent people. God bless.

Why having attended twelve step meetings for years...does it no work for me? I have done all the suggested things, but have recently relapsed on meth for the first time in 7 years. It all sounds so simple. Do the steps, bingo spiritual awakening, cured. Its much more complex than that. I believe in abstinence based recovery...but there needs to be another way other than AA, which doesn't work for me.

Thank you so much for posting this video! It showed up in my suggested videos queue at an amazingly perfect time in my life. I have since bought and listened to the audio book on Audible, and am currently in the middle of completing Step 4 of The Program. Thank you also for posting the resources on your website because I needed to see it written out, but I bought the audio version so I could listen to it at work. I am relieved to say that I am actually getting better from food, sex and relationship addiction by doing the work you suggest and teach. I believe the way you presented it was interesting and "cool" enough for me to give it a chance. I hope there are other people like me getting help from your story.

Nice 1 Russell i was living in orsett with my mum for abit on her couch and with my cousin in Ockendon. The drink and drugs was a problem for me. Ruling my life ruin it when younger then keeping me skint later. I ended up in chelmsford pcp now live over there in dry housing after graduating 21st September. I like the look of your book mate. I do AA CA NA but your steps tell it as it should. But i been doing the blue book ca way. The attraction not promotion is a shame and i think what your doing is right. Sod what negativity or spiritual wingers say keep doing it mate. I walk the streets promoting pcp. With my Chuck ya drugs and get high off life tracksuit. Because i believe im living better and united we show each other support. Its a blessing to be free of feeling ruff or disgusted with drink n drugs and too be thinking better than i was. I also care better. It is out there for those who want it innit or need it.

Mr. Brand "walks the talk" with some great advice for people suffering from addiction. Excellent community service.
Val Catt (1 year ago)
Addiction is simply a desire to have that which you believe will make you feel better--in an exaggerated way, perhaps. Everything we want, we want because we believe we will feel better in the having of it. I have never been addicted to anything, but I can fault no one for wanting to feel good. We are supposed to feel good and I believe that losing the desire to feel good is much worse than addiction. But then again, WTF do I know about anyone else's life experience? You had to be there, right?

Everyone in England need to cut out all the sugar and processed foods first!! And go raw and organic, people don’t know how good you can really feel!! It makes me sad 😔 and go keto especially men, I use to be a window licker on all that sugar, my brain works now !!! Eat your good fats, and take your tonic herbs!!! And eat your own grown veggies every day!! See how you change your biology mentally and physically!! Your right Russel people are hypnotised,
Another example of a newcomer to recovery thinking the 12 step program is for everyone.......any celebrity who broke their anonymity usually ends up back out there..... narcissism and psychosis at its best....I won't be affiliating myself to his Brand..... bullshit

thank you russell! we need to call out the truth to the world! you are a dianond, and i hope our paths will cross one day. sadly, too many people and institutions take advantage of addicts and see them as just a means of making money. a small group of us who have had bad experiences with "conventional" rehab are now forming a new group in the uk – www.addictionfree.world – we launch in early 2018. if you can help us make this world addiction free, please join us, we need you! if you know of anyone who could benefit from our programme, please introduce her or him to us. by saving and empowering others, we save and empower ourselves. by doing so, we heal our broken world.

THANK YOU RUSSELL BRAND! Your new BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST I HAVE EVER heard (audible). You made so much good sense and it was so much more helpful and meaningful than anything else I have read on the subject. You are not perfect, but no one else is either. BLESS YOU for your good work to help others. . I did not expect to like it much, but so far from the start, I was unable to put it down. You are the first person to point out issues that I thought no one else had. Your specifics were very helpful and not anything I have ever read in any other book about that.
Nas-T (1 year ago)
Fuck you Russell you want to push that 12-step program on everybody and it doesn't work for everyone" but you don't believe in replacement therapy using methadone Suboxone subutex and other blockers, even though if you're on hard opiates like heroin fentanyl or morphine based medications you can die from withdrawal because your body can go through dehydration from having chronic diarrhea and vomiting so your electrolytes get low in your body and you have a heart attack and die, don't be so biased understand the 12-step program doesn't work for everyone" replacement therapy saves lives everyday if it works for someone why not use it? Russell you're a pretty funny dude your movies are decent but have to open your eyes on how severe the disease of addiction really is, it has past the death of car wrecks every year it's a academic of overdoses, this is a terrifying disease addiction if we don't get a handle on it soon there's going to be millions of more deaths" and so many of them are going to be kids, we have to do whatever it takes Russell and that includes replacement therapy using blockers by methadone programs Suboxone subutex and other substitutions, please understand the 12-step program is not for everyone"'and I know for a fact you don't have no physical withdrawal from a sex addiction nor cocaine are other recreational drugs opiate withdrawal is the worst and most dangerous withdrawal benzodiazepine and alcohol is right there with them"" but we have to look at the reality that Everyone is different, and Fight this war with whatever works, if replacement therapy is going to help keep someone alive I say that is an option we have to use! I have been on a methodone program for the last five years, I have seen thousands of people that say if it wasn't for replacement therapy they would be dead, so I'm going to say it one more time whatever it takes if it works and keeps someone alive we have to use it. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone suffering from this horrible disease of addiction thank you and God bless.
