Is this an interrogation or an interview? I enjoy TLJ movies.
Claudia parish (2 days ago)
I get the distinct feeling that Tommy is "enduring" and "Putting up" with Rose. He's gritting his teeth. Can't say I blame him.
Luiz Henrique Franco (2 days ago)
Tommy Lee Jones is a great actor, but now, I really wanted to see Clint Eastwood on this movie, still, Tommy was great I love hes calm way to talk in the movie
Wayne Vietnam (15 days ago)
Tommy is no sage, he still doesn't understand that racial prejudice is completely normal and within all of us.
Ronnie Bishop (20 days ago)
Into the Electric Mist, wow what a movie.
Ronnie Bishop (20 days ago)
No matter who wrote it Charlie, Hahahs has nothing to do with how he always prepared for a part. Dumb question because you failed to qualify it that way. The Searchers Which was supposed to be Texas was shot in Monument valley which is a joke and the bigger joke is shooting Cheyanne Autumn there, just doesn’t work. Thank you Tommy.
Andrew Massanet (21 days ago)
Watching this, I now understand why he did not like Jim Carrey.
Curious (25 days ago)
I certainly wish Tommy Lee would remake Hemingway’s islands in the stream. It had the perfect cast, but so poorly done. Leaving out dialogue on sorrow, and happiness which was unforgivable. .

my idol tommy lee jones.

Tommy Lee Jones spotted out Jim Carrey first.  We should have been listening.

2:20 Blind patriotism? Ethno-centrism? sounds like a Trump voter to me
Claudia parish (2 days ago)
@wufongtan wufong Seriously? Ethnocentrism is the belief that Humans are the most important beings in the world and in the universe. Ethnocentrists believe that they can do, take and exploit any other beings for their own profit. It's a terrible selfish and ignorant trait, and will destroy life on this planet if we don't realize that all life is important and necessary for this planet to function.
Claudia parish (2 days ago)
Did you really listen? TLJ is against those things.
wufongtan wufong (2 months ago)
What's wrong with ethno-centrism?

Both fine films. One great actor and likely a good man as well.
quantillimo concordion (2 months ago)
....what is he talking about when he says he's blindly patriotic and a bigot? I didn't get any of that when I watched the movie. He was like tlj said: the decent commonman

keiichi maebara (3 months ago)
Hey setting like the character because he comes off as a bigot while I have a 1/2 brother related to him and hes actually the biggest bigot of them all Even as own family doesn't like him so I find it funny that he wouldn't wanna play a bigot
Mike Becker (3 months ago)
It is alright to feel that way, if people don,t have a sense of fear then they are completely stupid. Fear is the beginning of understanding and we should both fear and revere GOD"." AMEN

Charlie Rose is so annoying in this interview. He keeps cutting Jones off when he's trying to talk. Rose sucks.

Tommy Lee Jones is very humble , he’s one of the greatest, gee I am so impressed how he really do not come across as arrogant, the way he talks about Clint Eastwood’s it’s a truly sign of his genius and ways to maintain his ego grounded, so much respect for him .

What has happened to the "Islands in the Stream" project? I assume Tommy Lee knows that it's been done before (by George C. Scott (1977)). I've been looking forward to his take on it -- but did it get nixed at some point? I'm wondering if Tommy Lee doesn't rather dislike Rose? If so, he and I have always agreed about that. Charlie Rose: the master of the insidiously leading question . . .
Craig H (5 months ago)
Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas would ask a question and would let the interviewee take all the time they needed to answer it. They never interrupted their guests. Today's annoying hosts just can't get over their bad selves.
Milkman4279 (5 months ago)
Adam Savage in 'The Talking Room' is like that too. Adam asks a question and then let's the person answer for as long as they want. I could listen to him and Vince Gilligan talk about 'Breaking Bad' all day. I had actually never seen "Breaking Bad", but had to fire up the Netflix and binge watch all 5 seasons just because their interview was so interesting.
ArkaelDren (5 months ago)
I used to like Jones.
Patrick Wentz (5 months ago)
He is a lot edgier than I imagined. Interesting fellow.
M. Cobretti (5 months ago)
He is so clear about the things in his life that his answers are short and makes the interviewer look stupid.
meisterly manu (5 months ago)
There is clearly a disconnect between the Coens Jewish liberalism as part of Hollywoods elite, and TLJs Texas Republican conservatism, and it shows in this picture. Light years apart. They clearly were at odds during filming. I suspect TLJ was also at odds with Spielbergs interpretation of Lincoln, wanting something more edgy and less mainstream and documentarian than it was. But thats Hollywood. They dont understand TLJ, Eastwood or Penn. And yet McCormand and Coen view themselves as "anarchists against Hollywoods mainstream". If they are the rebels, Cronenberg and Gilliam must have been antichrists.
Patrick O'Brien (6 months ago)
If you get such a great actor like Tommy Jones don't get an insufferable interviewer like Charlie Rose.
Charles Klossner (6 months ago)
Charlie Rose has such a smug, droopy face.

Sense of here now. That puzzling mindset is a trick due addictions and too little souls for needs are met. A gift to be thinking at a table from another time place. Make best of.
Ga Wa (6 months ago)
I very much disliked this guy's interview style. He really fails to make a connection and seems unable to get his interviewees to warm to hima nd want to tell him their stories. Instead he is awkward and distant.

Tommy Lee Jones and Al Gore were more than college roommates, they were both intimate and gay.
midnight rider (7 months ago)
It seems like both of these guys are severely over examining the movie character. Of course it HAS to involve politics. They are so full of themselves.

Charlie is better at harassing women than he is at interviewing people.
Nx Doyle (7 months ago)
It's quite sad, really, that people like Charlie Rose and Michael Parkinson were gifted with the job of longer form interviews, yet were not particularly skilled and didn't really become more skilled as they progressed. I don't know why, although I think it's largely because they ended up placing themselves on the same level as their subjects.
Nx Doyle (7 months ago)
Mr Jones is right about Texas lagging when it comes to providing assistance to film makers. There are places in Texas that really can't be reproduced authentically by shooting in New Mexico or Arizona. Yet New Mex on one side and Louisiana on the other do much more for film makers.

the video makes no sense must be mistitled.Cant watch

Tommy just comes off as a a Texan, I don't know if he is or isn't but when I see him I just hear the Theme Song of Lonesome Dove. Charlie was and always has been an ignorant shithead (I would continue but it is beneath me)
Bluff Rat (2 months ago)
Tommy is a Texan. He is from San Saba, Texas, which is a small town about 45 miles south-southeast of where I am from (Brownwood).

It's excellent how tough his character in No Country was depicted by having the evil killer in his custody at the start of the film. I'd love to have seen the scene where he apprehended him.

Cant remember who I lent this movie to(NCFOM) and ive been trying to either track it down or find it at a pawn shop or Walmart to no avail. I thinkin I become obsessed to own it again so I can pop it in when ever I want and watch it. The elements in it are so satisfying just like when the Sherriff drinks a glass of milk on moss's couch. I guess there's no Walmart or pawnshops for no country for old men or Canadian Netflix for that matter.

Can somebody tell me what's so impressive about "No Country for Old Men" ??? I hated that movie so much !!
Patrick O'Brien (3 months ago)
The main character is killed off screen, the bad guy lives, the ending leaves one thinking about how nothing is destined, there are no reasons for some things. The audience is left with the same sense of confusion and morbid wonder as TLJ's character.
Patrick O'Brien (3 months ago)
@Finn Feaver i don't mean the story itself, rather that it is presented in an absurdist (literary definition of absurd) fashion to play with expectations, Otherwise yes it is simply a great thriller with a complete story (somewhat un-absurdist). But the way it's shown to the audience mirrors an absurdist theme.
Finn Feaver (3 months ago)
@Patrick O'Brien I would go ahead and say No Country is an amazing thriller film, but it is far from absurd. In fact, its as plain as day. Other Mccarthy works however are a different kettle of fish
Patrick O'Brien (6 months ago)
Some people don't get the theme and even if you do some people don't like absurdist type media. The Idea deconstructs normal narrative. There's no happy ending, no grand reveal or resolution. The protagonist dies off screen well before the end. The movie's structure reflects the theme that the plot conveys. It's not for everyone, but personally I love it. Perhaps the realism that things aren't always fairy tale endings, that there is no point, that for the most part, no one person is all that important, those that have lived are unchanged, just as confused, just as determined, just as weary, or unfeeling, etc. If it were a typical Hollywood movie the good guy wins, bad guy dies, and the sheriff gets his understanding of the world, but that's not real life, and not the book's theme. Personally I think it makes for a more interesting and less cookie cutter of a film.

Charlie might be, hmmm... Unnecessarily "pushy" at times... Some questions do require a bit of thought before answering well... Thumbs up for Tommy Lee though. :-)

I could never decide who was worse, Charlie Rose or Larry King. They were both horrible interviewers
BenjaminGessel (9 months ago)
Rose is the worse of the two... Larry King is ok...

Charlie Rose is a goofy over achiever that should stay in his house away from people, he doesn’t suck, he swallows.
KutWrite (10 months ago)
I didn't think there could be a boring interview with Tommy Lee Jones, but Charlie Rose pulled it off. I should have known.
Area Mann (10 months ago)
I started wondering if Charlie watched the movies. He starts talking about No Country and it turns out he is talking about Elah.
Claudia parish (2 days ago)
He was actually discussing both films.
Ozzie England (10 months ago)
Tommy Lee Jones was the WORST part about that otherwise great movie. He comes across as trying to hard to act like he's grizzled and a tired old lawman. I think he was miscast in this role, because he certainly didn't pull it off.
Hermoine Snape (5 months ago)
I was waiting for him to take that chic, hide her somewhere and visit her at night. The movie lacked sexual ANYTHING !!! 😯
BenjaminGessel (9 months ago)
Who would you rather have seen in this role? (I think I know who you might be thinking of...)

This is first time I've really listened to an interview with Tommy Lee Jones and man what a great man . He seems very humble and down to earth. Been in a lot of great movies and given the films taht extra umph it needed.

"islands in the Stream" is a great story. I sure hope Mr. Jones gets the movie made. It was once done one with George C. Scott. It was a profoundly sad movie, but the dialogue was true enough. I read it years ago when I was in the Coast Guard. Time to revisit. Time to go.
debi sybesma (11 months ago)
i have liked tommy lee jones since his soap beginnings BUT..... fell in love with him and gus during lonesome dove.... this is the first time i've ever seen him in a sit down.........i like how he speaks. he weighs what he wants to say, and makes sure what he wants to say, is what comes out of his mouth. not an open mouth, spew forth kinda guy......i like him even more AND......nor only is he a fine actor, he's a damn great one too.......
Rebel Oneal (1 year ago)
Ever notice how Rose interrupts rudely I might add the thoughts of those he interviews? What a example of Yankee rudeness on display...

He may live in NYC but ole Charlie is from Hendersonville, nc. Maybe he’s like that from attending dook.

The character development of the sheriff was very lacking, in my opinion. I was pretty disappointed in that. Tommy was very restrained in this one.

Doh. I missed the point in 'No Country' about the sherrif's son being killed. Have to watch it again, durn !! This video just makes me mad yet again, about the way they crucified Charlie Rose. Hey, woman, if you concede to come to my house and watch me shower, then you get what you get.
